A few years ago, I became aware of Vtubers, and I really only watched Kizuna Ai. I think I was there when she passed 1M subs, and I was definitely there when she got her Nendoroid. And that's just what Vtubers were: independent entities making Youtube videos. I fell out of it after awhile and could never really catch back up despite her always cracking me up.

Fast forward to now. I don't even recognize anything anymore. There are 1000x as many of them now, there are enormous agencies, half of Twitch streamers have their own Vtuber avatar, whatever Hololive is is already on its 15th generation it seems, and on and on. I wouldn't even know where to start if I was interested nowadays. I hate to say "Man, back then were simpler, halcyon times," but, man, back then were simpler, halcyon times.

That is exactly what killed my interest when this craze took off big. It's the same reason I got out of Magic the Gathering years and years ago (I know they're about as opposite as you can get). Just being too much thrown at you in a short period of time. Always a new expansion to throw money at, or in this case 10 new v-tubers popping up every month it seems. That seems true with all sorts of entertainment streams in general now a days. I can barely keep up with the D&D streams that interest me, let alone the influx of idol v-tubers.
