This is why I am a proud fan of both One Piece and Shingeki no Kyojin, they are both fantastic! And I am truly grateful I live in an era to be able to witness these two works' success with my own eyes.

And great that everyone so far act really mature and gracious (so far no trolls or sour grapes spotted) about this. If the entire anime community could act like this...

PS: Production IG (my favorite studio, and its subsidiary company/sixth-division Wit Studio)'s anime for Shingeki no Kyojin and Hoozuki no Reitetsu brought significant boost to the respective manga. I am more curious about this spring'sHaikyuu though. It is a near-flawless adaptation, but did it actually contribute a significant boost to the manga? I am praying my hardest that it did! Sad

I'm not a fan of thrillers and horror action, but Attack on Titan is still a really well-written manga, with a well-produced anime. I'm much more of a One Piece fan, since One Piece tugs at my heart strings a little harder, but both series definitely aren't undeserving of popularity.

Whoa there! You consider opinions on art work rude? How?

Is it because you fell people are criticizing something that they themselves could not do? I'm just gonna say I don't need to be a master chef to recognize that the fish my Nan cooked was bad (and I love my Nan's cooking)!

Personally I don't think much of AoT's art style. In some panels I even struggle to identify some characters identities! However, I think that that same style works really well for the titans themselves, I just think that Isayama struggles with normal people.

Similarly I like OP's art style in general, but i think that he might cram almost too much into each panel. A few emptier more focused images would be a breath of fresh air from time to time.

So sir! I find you opinion on other people's opinion's being rude to be rude! Anime hyper

Seriously though, I see what you're saying, when people just attack the series they don't like I just don't quite agree with how you said it.

No surprise here. Though, I hope it can keep it's position for a little while.

Allow me to rephrase it then: Of course I accept different opinions, and consider my multilingual (Chinese, Japanese, Korean and German; English is my weakest language which is why I am an Engineering student in USA) background, I even recognize difference of opinions among various cultural backgrounds. As shown from rest of my post, I do hope you can tell I am NOT a person who easily dismiss conflicting opinions, quite the opposite, I welcome and encourage them. But...they have to be constructive and reasonable for people to take seriously. When some people quickly dropped "oh, the art sucks, nuff said", "XXX is overrrated" how can you expect me to take THAT kind of short and trollish"opinions" seriously?

Again, I do think you misunderstood me in that sense, and I certainly hope you do not misinterpret me as a rude person. OK, I will fix that paragraph. Although I really did not see any sinister intent as you have guessed (No, I do not resort to that kind of weak arguments, and I hate arguing with people anyway)

I certainly didn't interpret you as rude, those comments were made in good humour Very Happy. You made a very good point and one that I tend to agree with.

Unfortunately I genuinely love to argue Anime hyper. Something about facing off with cleverly presented opinions, pitting your reasoning against someone else's, is fun to me. Obviously, voices with such reasonableness are rare on the internet, so i try to engage them in conversation whenever I can. Thus I picked open the one small loophole in your post to try and find a new opinion.

Ah, got you! But it was a good lesson from you, sir. I will try to make my language much more conservative next time, and less prone to non-intended interpretations.

I thank you for that. Embarassed

In the end One Piece will probably win out and this is the reason why. As others have stated only one new volume has been released this year Vol 73 Vol 74 is due out this Wed Jun 4th and Vol 75 should be out around Oct One Piece will make around 2.6-2.8 in the first two months from each easily not including other sales of volumes. AOT has one more volume coming out in Aug which by Dec should get AOT another 1.7-1.8 mil copies sold so it will be close but in the end I believe One Piece will keep it's yearly crown.

Me personally I liked AOT in the beginning but the second half of the series with all the spoiler[everyone turning out to be a titans]. All the twists are really not grabbing me.

Found the top 100 list so updating this post. That 8 million is definitely only the main series. Spin-offs unincluded.

Topping One Piece in terms of sales in one way or another really is an achievement. Congratulations to Isayama. His time is indeed now.

Even if One Piece had two volumes, I don't think it would be enough to get over the 3.4 million gap.

But like others, I think One Piece will take the trophy for overall 2014 since I expect at least 2 (maybe even 3) more One Piece volumes to release for the remainder of the year.

I think One Piece will add about 7.5m more copies for 2014 while I only expect Titans to add around 3m. Titans backlog sales has slowed down and I don't think we'll be seeing an announcement about volume 14 getting a 3m print run.

Though even with 2 more One Piece volumes, I think it will be a close race since One Piece has to close that 3.4m gap.
