The real question is - this 22% of users in the NSFW space - do they make any money for Verizon or do they drive away potential advertisers? That will be the bottom line, and getting kicked out of the app store and this moral crusade is likely a good reason to finally tackle whether they can ever monetise tumblr...

It seems this was in response to Apple pulling their app from the app store after finding child porn on it. Quite the overreaction if you ask me, is it really that hard to update your filters and IP ban the violators while reporting them to the authorities?

As someone who only browse Tumblr for the (adult, consensual) porn, this is so long for me.

Did some clean up. The next person who wants to throw out a trollish blanket judgment post against groups of people will be put on moderation immediately. That sort of crap isn't going to fly so stop it.

When will people learn that banning doesnt work? Getting rid of all the adult content from a website isn't going to make the internet a safer place. It's just going to drive innocent content creators down into the Dark Web where viruses and evil prevails to prey and poison the unwary traveler. They're just throwing fat into the fire, or something clever.

On the other hand, Tumblr did host several prostitutes.

Even if you don't post NSFW the site is a mess right now, the algorithm is flagging the most random things right now.

Also between this and the older purge this is screwing over many artists that either couldn't afford their own site or wanted to build a audience. Patreon has not ran out them yet but people don't just randomly come and pledge a month, this people came from elsewhere... like tumblr. And patreons don't have much interactivity with each other so is harder for them to have people looking at another artists blog thanks to one that they follow.

Also there is the perenial problem with fandoms, there is no perfect site for fandom circles right now but Tumblr was one that sucked less, as facebook is kinda awful for fandom discusion, and alongside with twitter have the problem of not having much of an archive. This is probably going to hurt many fandoms, and will keep the others at edge as there is no guarantee Tumblr won't delete them anytime.

Egypt and most of the Middle East would like a word.

I'm not so sure about that. Feel like people in those countries have a much better understanding of the dangers of unregulated weapons. A window into the future for the U.S., perhaps.

My intended meaning was probably "developed countries" but that whole concept is a bit racist/nationalist and in any case I no longer consider America a developed country (the inequality is too damn high), so that doesn't really help my case.

I've been enjoying the mass panic comments I've been reading on some of my more favorite Reddit accounts. Y'all would think someone would have cleaned up the internet and banned all porn by the way some people are reacting.

Except Egypt and The Middle East are not afraid of it. That kind of stuff is mearly looked down upon like pig fat and frog intestines. You can despise somthing without actually feeling threatened by it.

This is one of the most misinformed statements I have ever had the displease of reading.

I encourage you to look into Rania Youssef controversy (among others), these countries laws regarding 'incitement to debauchery', and the 'lawyers' who prey upon women who are just trying to express themselves (Google Samir Sabri and tell me you don't think he and others are "not afraid of it").

https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/people/2018/12/01/egyptian-actress-headed-trial-wearing-revealing-dress/2174977002/

Yes this comment is off topic and I promise I will not reply if Incarnate tries to continue this discussion. But given how topical this is I couldn't just not say something.

Left Tumblr in late 2015. Fandom wars everywhere. Exaggerated analysis on fandoms and opinions that nobody asked for. If you were quite active in some of their popular communities back then, you will know how messy it went.

Knew something like this would happen ever since Apple took out the app from its app store last month. RIP Tumblr.

I've never quite understood tumblr, but there are a lot of yaoi content on there. I wonder where they're moving to now?

A lot of people I know (mostly artists) have moved on from Tumblr long ago and they are now posting their artwork in either on Twitter and Pixiv. Mostly Twitter atm.

I was hoping someone would bring this up during my initial comment regarding Egypt.

Yes, the US has its issues when it comes to female nudity. But no woman is going to be jailed over showing some skin by wearing a dress in public under the charge of 'incitement to debauchery'. @kotomikun - Consider yourself lucky that you've never had the (dis)pleasure of looking at the smartphones from some people from this part of the world. Many of these people actively embrace technology when it comes to maiming others.

Man, this sucks. I was just gathering a following on tumblr last month, good thing I don't post my nsfw illust. Twitter and Instagram has really crappy image quality. I hope non-artist won't just leave tumblr. I like how you could costumize the dekstop blog in tumblr.
