Flying Pussyfoot? The train is actually called the Flying Pussyfoot?

Does anyone else see anything horribly wrong with this?

Why would something be wrong? Best. Train. Name. Ever.

the only thing the name of train implies is that its fast and quiet, seriously, grow up.

i honestly didn't like Baccano that much when i saw the fansubs, but the dub has sold me on watching it again. from what i've seen so far, Funimation nailed it perfectly.

Now that I've seen the dub, I am really impressed. The only voice I have any qualms with is Lua's, but she doesn't speak much so I'm willing to let it slide. I'm glad this series got a top-notch dub. It deserves it!

I know what you mean, I've felt that way about some series myself. It really does seem like it'll shape up to be an excellent dub from the clips I've heard so far. X3

I've heard so many good things about and I'd like to join the Baccano bandwagon, but I'm worried the violence will put me off. I'm sorry, but blood, guts and gore don't do it for me. I personally despise people (aka psychos and derelicts) who find that stuff "awesome" for that matter. Anyway, is the level of violence too intense to put off someone from trying to watch it?

Baccano! is pretty violent, though in my opinion it handles that violence pretty well. It doesn't revel in it a lot by piling it on more than is necessary to get the point across, but neither does it shy away from showing things that are graphic and downright disturbing. What this means is you're going to get a lot of short cuts of really violent images, but they don't linger on the screen, and a lot of violence is still represented by implication rather than direct display. So the point of the show is not to BE ultra-violent, but to properly tell a story that, by its very nature, IS very gruesome at times.

On the other hand, the show does have a delightfully light-hearted side to it, with a great deal of non-violent or non-graphic comic relief so that the show doesn't become overburdened with how dark some of its scenes are. Ultimately it's really going to come down to your own discretion, and I recommend watching the first episode on Funimation's site as it has a good representation of both elements in it.

As for me, I love this show so much, and my art box just arrived yesterday. So far, I think the dub is absolutely brilliant, with a few weak links. Carol's voice is uninspired, very average "adult doing a kid's voice", but she's in so little of the show that it doesn't really matter. Elian's actor also sounds like he's struggling to find a mix between jivin' black dude and nerdy bookworm, and vacillates inconsistently. Isaac and Miria COULD be more energetic, but I'm pretty satisfied with their readings so far.

My only real complaint with the DVD (and it's kind of a big one) was the inclusion of an unskippable preview for FMA at the front. And it wasn't even a good preview, in fact it was really terrible. So ham-fisted and overacted in the voice over and composition that the only thing that could make it worse would be "In a world...". And I have to watch this one and a half minute monstrosity every time I want to play the DVD. At least I can use VLC if I'm playing it on my computer...

"Oh my god, why would you even DO that?"

The violence is necessary to tell the story? Well I'm already a little worried now. I guess I'd better do as you suggested and scope out the first episode before committing to this.

Yeah, I'd definitely use the first episode to gauge your reaction to the violence. If you can sit through a film like The Godfather, The Untouchables, Casino or any of the other pivotal mob films without squirming, I think you should be okay. I felt the violence in Baccano! was a nod to such films, which all had their share of bloodshed, but it was used in such a way as to advance the plot rather than be violent for gratuity's sake.

Dude, no offense, but this is a show about the Mob (among other things). What did you expect? >_>;

I also don't agree at all that a story being more confusing makes it more enjoyable.

What is enjoyable about it is the desire to see more of this show so someone can understand exactly what is going on. If everything was laid out right away then the whole point of the flashbacks and jumbled style would be defeated.

From your review (and continual spammed advertisements from Funimation), I look forward to seeing this anime at my next Anime meeting at my University. If it's good enough, I may even consider picking up the first artbox vol 1, since I'm serious about collecting LEs and SEs just for the box art alone.

You're awfully sensitive for a guy who was happy to call people who like violent shows "psychos and derelicts" not but a few posts back.
