I share your views, I'd preferred if Bones continued on from where the movie ended. After all they did complete the show without heavily relying on the manga.

The teaser does indicate a reboot though...to my disappointment.

Ew. This reminds me of Lodoss. The TV series reboot that was closer to the original novels will always be inferior to the OAV IMO.

The art of Mustang in the trailer makes it very very clear that this is not a continuation of the previous series.

He doesn't look that different. Also, it may be simply a case of a different character designer or something. Anyway, I suppose we'll find out on the 12th.

It's not the character design. Roy spoiler[lost his eye] at the end of the original TV series. It's pretty obvious it's not the sequel to it.

Yep, it's going to get the Hellsing Ultimate treatment, except as a tv series instead of OVAs. I really wouldn't mind this happening a lot more, a redone Claymore in 3 years time that fixes that travesty of an ending would be nice for example.

Next up: Fruits Basket and Rurouni Kenshin.

Don't really care which one gets their proper remake first.. so long as they both get it.

Let's not forget Fist of the North Star!

Also, it wouldn't hurt if Bobobo-Bo Bo-bobo and Black Cat got one too.

But what could they possibly do after the movie? The omake spoiler[made it pretty clear that they stayed in the real world.]

I take it you've seen Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Abridged Series? If so, then I may add in regards to this news: Holy **** on a **** sandwich with **** on top....and a side helping of ****! April! I wasn't expecting it till much later. Although I would prefer to know what it's going to be (remake, closer to the manga, continuation (maybe ignore what happened in the movie), spin-off more focused on other characters, what?) rather than when it's going to be aired. Excited as I am, it's hard to be when you're given near-to-nothing about the story.

I don't know, heh. I've never read the/any manga, but maybe there's an arc within the manga that could merge with the anime storyline? That would be impossible from what random posts I've read here and there.

I have faith in Bones in producing a worthwhile story if given the chance to continue. In doing so, obviously it won't appease the huge manga fanbase, who want a FMA anime that follows the source material more closely.

Exactly. All of the changes Bones did made the two incompatible. It's one or the other, and all signs point towards the manga.

It would be possible but pointless. Approximately 17 of the original 51 episodes "matched" the original plot line. So basically, they would be asking the viewer to forget most of the first series happened which is the same thing as just doing a full reboot.

I, for one, would be dissapointed if it's a remake. Yes, I understand that the original series didn't fully follow the manga, but, honestly, once is a enough. I'm getting pretty tired of remakes and ("re-imaginings") in all forms of media.

This is great. Whether its a reboot or a continuation, i'll be happy. Some of my favorite episodes are from the later half, which didn't have anything to do with the manga at all. Because of that, I know the writing and story will be good even if its not manga. And if it is manga, I can't wait for the Mustang vs Lust fight and the part where Ed fights Envy inside of Gluttony's stomach. Plus we get more Crimson Alchemist adn Armstrong's sister.

Either way = win.

I love the dub so here's hoping Funimation is already talking to the english casts and getting things ready for as close to a simultaneous release as possible.

As big as FMA is, they'd be fools to have nothing official in English when this launches in Japan, whether that be what they did for Shikabane-hime (Hulu) or what they are doing for Naruto come Jan 15.

Ooh. I am sooooooo TORN, right now, toss me to the dogs like Jezebel, I don't know what to make of this!

I mean, on the one hand, Fullmetal Alchemist is the best anime EVER, (IMO,) so why wouldn't I want to see more of it? The manga has gotten to the point where its writing is as polished and sophisticated as the TV series was. (When it first began, though, I didn't think it was that good.) Adapting it calls for epic win.

But that's just the thing. Doesn't it betray the original TV series to do so? People who watch FMA in the future aren't going to know which show to watch, really. You have two different series retelling the same story. That kind of shatters the story's integrity to me. People who like the manga story can just read the manga, now there's a novel idea...

Practically speaking, it makes me sad that the show's enormous hype is the only reason for a faithful remake when it doesn't even NEED one, the original anime was already outstanding! (Spend that money on remaking some anime that need it badly!) But as a fangirl, I'm just too excited to see (and hear!) more FMA...speaking of the dub, they're gonna need a new Alphonse. Laughing

April 9? Better start catching up on the manga. I'm really excited to see the Xing Alchemy story finally come into fruition.

And I bet dollars to donuts that FUNimation will pick this up on the first opportunity. However, the only thing I'm worried about is who could replace Aaron Dismuke as Alphonse considering that Dismuke can't do the voice anymore? They better find a good replacement because it will be pretty hard to meet the bar raised by Dismuke's performance. Confused

If Vic Mignogna can do little boy voices at his age, so can Aaron. I don't see anyone else voicing Alphonse because Aaron IS Alphonse.

Pulling a Hellsing Ultimate on FMA...the first series was already really good, and I don't see how they could possibly top what's already there.

This doesn't bode well for what I was hoping. A revamp? It would be excellent in some cases, a prime example being Berserk, which had a brilliant plot but suffered from a castrated ending and horrible animation. But FMA? Darling FMA? FMA was wonderful, with well-established characters, good animation, solid plot, etc. etc. Why revamp it? Why not just take the story from its TV series ending and incorporate the manga elements into it? It's not hard to do with some creativity, which BONES surely has.

BOO to the revamp

Yeah, I mostly agree with this here. The original anime doesn't follow the manga completely, but its still one of the best produced anime series ever. How are they going to do a revamp without pissing off a lot of people who enjoyed the original series? Hopefully, they figure out a way for it all to work out so the voice actors and seiyuus and everyone else doesn't have to sit through the same beginning again.
