Thank you.
Hollywood kills at special effects.

Realistically, if one gets one's head out of the box, this isn't a story that has to take place in Japan at all. Yes, the original was made in Japan, but is there any reason Ryuk couldn't drop that book anywhere in the world? France? Sweden? Russia?
Yes, the majority of the cast is Japanese because that's how the writer wrote it. But couldn't the idea of a book that kills work anywhere? We don't have to keep genii stories in the middle east, do we? We have vampires all over the world.
The plus side of this story is if it does well, they can either pursue Ryuk doing just that-dropping it somewhere, someplace else(look at Saw) or going after L's other casework. In most detective novels, it is the detective that takes off, inspiring scores of sequels. This aspect is likely a huge selling point to the movie company

L - Alessandro Julianni, Heath Ledger (if he were still alive, RIP) or Kenichi Matsuyama reprises him in the US version (see subtitled L movie for answers to language barrier problem)

I did see the subtitled version of L: Change the WorLd, and I'd say there definitely is a language barrier problem. Yes, Matsuyama spoke a lot of English in the movie, but he didn't exactly speak it very clearly most of the time....I kind of wished all the 'English' had been subtitled as well Laughing I doubt they would want to cast someone whose English would be difficult for most people to understand.

Thank you for reminding me of Sukiyaki Western Django...

As for why I said it, ,yes Matsuyama's english fumbles at best, but compared to the other Japanese actors speaking english in Change The WorLd, he sounded like he was born in the US.

I'm sure that Warner Bros. will do a good job at adapting the Deathnote movie, because they did such a good job adapting the comics they own, as in Batman, I just hope they'll get a director and writer who will actually understand what they're doing. I wonder if they'll Americanize stuff or not.

So long as it isn't Kieth "I love the original, lemme rewrite it to my own view!!" Giffen.

See, you scoff at Miley Cyrus as Misa... but that's some pretty great casting.

and why do you want Canadian voice actors voicing major roles?

Can you elaborate on that? I'm just curious...

A little fanservice to the audience, and not a lot of voice actors get the respect they deserve...

Potential Actor For Light Has His HollyWood Status Raised

After weeks of contract negotiations, the 'Gossip Girl' star
officially signs on to play the lead role in the musical remake.

Photo by Stephen Lovekin, Getty Images It's official! Chace Crawford
will star in the "Footloose" remake, Paramount Pictures confirms to
Usmagazine.com exclusively.

"Chace Crawford will play the lead role of Ren McCormack in the film
'Footloose'," Paramount told Us Tuesday.

The news is expected to be officially announced to trade publications
Wednesday morning.

The actor has been considering the part for some time but had yet to
officially sign until this week. He had been in contract negotiations
and was struggling to make filming work around his "Gossip Girl"
schedule, which is also due to start shooting its third season, a
source told Us.

Crawford was offered the lead role of Ren -- portrayed in the 1984
original by Kevin Bacon -- after Zac Efron dropped out of the project
in March.

Check out Chace's yearbook photo!

The "High School Musical" star said the film "sort of" wasn't a good fit.

"I want to grow a bit with the types of movies I want to make," he
said in April. "It was more along the lines that I was looking for a
new challenge, and this was another musical."

Find out what your favorite "Gossip Girl" stars looked like as kids.

"Footloose" will be produced and directed by "High School Musical"
alum Kenny Ortega.

Other stars who have auditioned recently for the movie, which is set
to begin shooting in March 2010, include Hayden Panettiere, Amanda
Bynes and "Dancing With the Stars" pro dancer Julianne Hough.

there is also internet buzz about him starring in the American remake
of death note

as a the lead, footloose could only raise his status in that regard
