You know when you see a train wreck and it's bad, but you can't stop watching? Sometimes that how I feel when I watch S-Cry-Ed. If this wasn't an action series it might've been gone by now. Heck, I don't feel so bad for describing the series like so awhile back.

I'm more surprised that S-CRY-Ed isn't doing that well. Though it is probably due to it losing much of the lead-in that InuYasha gives them, the underlying problem is that up to now the show is just lame. Maybe if they actually start explaning how the world got so messed up instead of throwing bad cliches and tired dialogue (or is it tired cliches and bad dialogue?) at the viewer:

Ryunho: "It's like I turned on a switch in him. . ."
(later) Kazuma: "It's like a switch has been turned on in me, and I have you to thank!"

I think the only reasons people haven't quit on the show entirely is because 1) it looks like SEED so there's an inkling of hope that it all comes together 2) People want to hear a rare instance when [as] plays the complete OP "Reckless Fire" and ED "Drastic My Soul" as they sometimes do.

first of all the cliches stuff, there are animes for worst out there and this one seems to stand out so people are going to hate on it. and it does get better, it gets a whole lot better but arnt most series like that? some series start really good and then they turn into crap isnt that worst? im not to thrilled about the first couple of episodes either but the animation maintains its high sandards throughout. the fight scenes arnt that bad in the begining its all just a lack of story that eventually will all get tied in. and your argument about people who watched SEED are watching those only because its characters resemble is stupid. I've never seen one episode of SEED and i know fellow anime fans who hate Giant Robot Anime but love s-CRY-ed. one of my friends was laughing when kazuma destroyed the super pinch crusher because he hates giant robots so much. i think the dialogue is good it relates to the story im surprised you didn't say somthing like "the subtitled version is a lot better because its the way it was intended". and i dont think the intro and outro are any good either i kinda hate the songs but still really like the anime.

first off the dubbing thing i really liked the dub it was funny and very enjoyable to watch. sub fans hate every dubbed show so i wouldnt listen to him. anyway i have one more question for people who have actually seen the series ending. this is a spoiler but i bet you all saw it coming. i know i did. spoiler[when ryuho and kazuma are having their final fight and they both start fighting bare hand and knock each other out, does kazuma raising his hand and the credits rolling mean he won or are they getting ready to go at it again?] does anyone know the real reason or is everyone just giving their opinion.
well when you finish credits more stuff comes. That's not a spoiler is it, saying that theres more after credits?

It depends on if you see the cheesiness of the show as "just lame" or as campy fun. The creators just wanted to play around with their wacky cast of characters, as when Super Pinch shows up, some people like the silliness and others don't.

Yeah, the article seems dated now because the story and action has picked up. Regarding the second comment, with most 26 episode shows I evaluate their worth after 4-6 episodes; If I don't like it or can't get into it I stop watching, and it was very hard to really get into the series because the storyline dragged.

Similar characters? Not exactly. I'm saying it's produced by the same company, has the same nuances and the animation style is similar to that of Sunrise (who helped produce Gundam SEED). I know I developed a higher expectation of the show, and I don't think I'm alone on that.

My hate on the dialogue has nothing to do with dub/subtitle versions. Again, it has improved from the time I wrote the comment but still are occasions where the writing seems a little transparent (sort-of spoiler[Ha! I captured you second-in-command! What! You have my sister? You must die!]). I mean Goku-Vegeta had more of a story going for them than Kazuma-Ryunho right now.

Well, more than anything I'd say, would be that both shows share the same character designer in Hisashi Hirai. A man rather infamous among the anime fanbase for being extremely unoriginal and recycling character designs just a wee bit too much; when Soukyuu no Fafner first debuted, for example, the lead in that show looked so similar to Shinn Asuka of Gundam SEED Destiny that many people online thought screenshots of Fafner's early episodes to be early sneak previews of SEED Destiny.

Hirai's style is very distinct, but also very cookie-cutter in that he keeps copying characters for every show he does.

That's especially true for his female characters. I think it was someone on this forum but I remember someone nicknaming him Hisashi 'Clone Em All' Hirai.

okay i think your looking at it all wrong your trying to see the differences between kazuma and ryuho yet the point is that they are the same. they both have similar events occuring because they are so alike and it depicts war on how there are similar people on seperate sides of war fighting for the same thing. i really hope that made sense.

Sounds appropriate. Hell, Kanami just plain creeps me out with the way she reminds me of Lacus from Gundam SEED. It's like they're some new Pokemon or something.

Kanamon has evolved into Lacuchu! Wink

first of all i'd like to say i really enjoyed watching s-CRY-ed although they were stretching it quite abit in the beginning
the only thing i thought it was missing was kazuma's background. You just get to see him as a native alter and nothing more except for the fact he gets more powerfull eventually.

Kazuma's background is explained throughout the entire show every time he looks back at his past.

I can buy the similar-type-of-person-despite-differences storyline. Heck, 08th MS Team (despite it being shredded on The Midnight Run showed a good job of that with a romantic angle instead. However, there's NO excuse for the dialogue I'm hearing from them. It's one-word exclamations, copycat speeches and mindless screaming. At least if they started throwing some Kamehamehas I'd let it pass.

The dialogue isn't exactly great on s-CRY-ed, but we need to remember who's speaking as we watch each episode.

The spohisticated speakers seem to be Martin Jingmar and Straight Courgar. Jingmar, head of HOLY, is the oldest known Alter User (which, of course, leads me to ask how he became an Alter User if he was born before the Lost Ground came into being). Straight Cougar, although a young man, is older than Kazuma and Ryuho and nearly every other Alter User we've seen through Episode 13.

Both men, but namely Martin Jingmar, seem to have enough of an educational background that they can use a varied vocabulary without soundign fake or silly.

Kanami, the young girl who happens to be Kazuma's cousin and has some sort of link to his mind, sounds older than she is, except when she's addressing Kazuma.

Then there is everyone else.

Nearly all the Alter Users I didn't mention are teenagers, and nearly all of these are younger than the legal age of consent (whatever that is where we live). Vocabulary and speech patterns won't be polished to begin with, so they won't be sophisticated. Additionally, the Alter Users come from a land where education was hard to come by-- the Lost Ground isn't exactly known for its schools or its educational system. Whatever language skills they have, they had to acquire somehow, and their environment determined that.

Regarding Kazuma and Ryuho, both young men aren't known for their communication skills. Kazuma is driven by his singled-minded purpose; whatever that is, it involves ridding the land of HOLY and maybe HOLD. As far as Kazuma is concerned, talk is cheap. Ryuho, on the other hand, has a better educational background than Kazuma; nevertheless, Ryuho is economical in his use of language.

Ironically enough, it seems as if Ryuho does most of his talking with Kazuma. Any conversation between two people whose use of language is minimal can't be expected to knock our socks off. When people like Ryuho and Kazuma begin hurling threats and fighting words at each other-- and both have legitimate reasons for doing so-- we can't expect anything poetic or circumspect coming out of their mouths.

Use of language on s-CRY-ed isn't near what we've seen on series such as Cowboy Bebop or Paranoia Agent, but I think the way it's used here fits with the characters involved.

True that, but here's the crux of my argument. I'm talking about dialogue character-to-character, which may be why I found eps. like Mimori Kiryu to be real good - spoiler[we peered into her "sophisticated" mind and her interactions with HOLD and HOLY members, notably Ryunho]. Gundam SEED sported teens younger than those in HOLY (Miriellia, Sai, Tolle and Co.). If a great plot can be ruined by shoddy character dialogue, what happens when your plot is average so far?

I don't think I can agree. Yeah, I don't expect the Lincoln-Douglas debate but don't starting echoing each other. That's something InuYasha has been accused of. As stated by my last comment I've seen action dialogue in worse series that was better than S-Cry-Ed.

Watched the entire series didn't really enjoy it, one of the stupidiest endings I've had the displeasure of watching. I'm not surprised at all that this series can't hold its own against IY. IY has far greater appeal for more age groups. IMO S-cry-d is quite mindless and the ending of the "journey" pointless. I don't recommend this series at all. If you want fighting series there are plenty others to select from.
