Discotek, guys seriously, I thought you were pretty awesome before, but now I think I'm in love. While DVD releases with new transfers would be great, if you can release either of these on BD I would buy them on day one (and that's with me never seeing Cybersix, just hearing really good things about it.)

OMG! I LOVE CYBER SIX! Can't wait to pick that baby up! Oh and, Fatal Fury too I guess. Hope it sales well and they pick up the Darkstalkers/Nightwarriors OVAs as well!

Sweet hallelujah.
I already have a few releases of Cybersix but not the entire thing. Takes me back though. I remember spending summers catching up when Teletoon aired it again catching what I missed when I was younger. |

I know.... It's funny how some companies hit it right on all cylinders at one time and make the fans happy. Beware, though, because the honeymoon doesn't last very long with anime fans in particular! MediaWorks was the to-love company years back when they released both versions of the first two Voltron series on DVD. Guess where they are now? Beware about wishing for BD releases... Won't happen with many of these smaller companies. HD remastering is just too expensive for the gamble they take on cult movie/series releases. They just hope to break even, minimum, or make some money. That probably wouldn't happen with a BD domestic release, unfortuately. A 480p DVD would be nice but I think even today that progressive-scan DVD releases, especially from small companies, aren't all that common. ******************************* Cybersix... Shhhh! It's based on an Argentinian comic strip. Don't tell the fanboys! Seriously, though, it's probably only the third or fourth animated series in the US that had a cross-dressing character. 13 was the number of episodes, total... The comic ran much longer. I think the character's creator is dead but somebody was translating the original Argentinian release in English. The translations might still be up on the web somewhere. I know I downloaded a few years ago... ******************************** I LIKED both dubs of Akira. Can't go wrong with Cam Clark or Johnny Bosch. They're both excellent voice actors. The film is equally annoying in English or Japanese... it took me a while to figure out WHY anybody thought it was a classic. It has pretty good production values for an anime feature. Not so sure the story's all that different from other apocalyptic features from the same period. The main thing it has going for it is high quality standards. There are many films today that don't look this good, either! Just don't expect a completely faithful adaptation of a comic that ran for years in 2 hours. Not gonna happen! We finally have a release in the US that has ALL the main language tracks on it. Australia had a release like this (or at least the original English dub) on DVD years ago. I just wish the Criterion laserdisc extras could have been packed in with one of the later DVD/Blu ray releases. The Criterion LD edition had so much on it that's not available anywhere else as far as I know. You just don't get to see cel set-ups and pencil tests much anymore on any animated release... (It also had the complete first issue of the Marvel color adaptation of Akira...) Even Disney doesn't put pencil tests on many of its home releases. There's a good chance the deluxe Japanese LD also had some goodies that aren't in the later home video releases, either. The Akira production report, also, a period documentary about the making of the film (which was a box office bust in Japan -- made its money on home video) hasn't been re-released since VHS days as far as I know on the American video editions, either. |

I am apparently the only person reading this thread who hasn't heard of Cybersix.
Curiosity getting the better of me, I pulled up Google image search to see what everyone has been gushing about and sweet mary mother of jesus (nsfw) suddenly my browser window is full of porn. It would appear that fully half the original comics featured the title character topless or fully nude on the cover. Given the other big discussion topics of the week, I was actually surprised no one has mentioned anything about this yet in this thread. I'm kinda curious what people think, since there's so much enthusiasm about Discotek picking up the series? Yet another example of sexism and objectification in anime and comics? |

I don't know what kind of filters you have off because I see nothing but noir-shaded drawings of a lady in a cape and catsuit. Also, I'll go out on a limb and say that 90% of people who discovered Cybersix did so through the animated series rather than comic. |

The TV show had nothing at all like that. Her costume was form fitting but not at all revealing, and she spent most of her time dressed like a man in baggy pants and a dress shirt. There was definitely no objectification of her - the show was more interested in her humanity and developing feelings for her co-worker. They used to air Cybersix on Teletoon in the afternoon, and they wouldn't have done that if there was material that wasn't kid-friendly. |

As far as I know, Cybersix never aired in the US. It was a Canadian/Japan coproduction. |

It aired on Fox Kids back in 1999. They ran it once in sequence then basically aired it haphazardly and constantly switched its time slot around. |

As a Canadian, Cybersix was sort of a defining cartoon for me. It's very iconic and I'm excited to see it again. Really excited to see that it's getting a quality release.
Definitely keeping an eye out for preorders. |

Cybersix basically came and went on Fox Kids along side Escaflowne. |

I haven't watched Cyber Six since back when I was a kid and I don't know if I ever saw it in it's entirety. I remember it being pretty cool though. Will definitely pick this up.
