this is truly sad, James Avery was the best as Uncle Phil and he made the Shredder when he voiced in the 80's TMNT cartoon. Hopefully he's resting happily in heaven.

My thoughts are with his family, especially as he appears to have passed away following a procedure that was supposed to make him better (not blaming any Doctors though, this just sometimes happens with heart surgery) so it must be so devastating. Not that death is even anything other than devastating. I too grew up watching Fresh Prince and TMNT and many of the other things he did voice work for, he's really going to be missed.

Great, solid actor...
I remember him from Fresh Prince -- yeah, EVERYBODY does! -- but heard him in occasional animation appearances like the 1990s "Legend of Prince Valiant" TV series. I also remember him as one of the neighbors who going to sue the evil developer (Michael McKean) at the end of The Brady Bunch Movie! One of the very few who's been great across different genre in film. I already knew about some of this voice-acting but it STILL caught me off-guard that this fellow was the original Shredder! I can "hear it" now, though! He was always a class act from what I've seen... That's a rare thing at times in entertainment. People are going to miss this guy... |
