Despite the third OVA being a bit of a let-down, I really enjoyed the first two Arise OVA's -- so if it's Arise related (and not a compilation film), I won't feel like it's the end of the world.

I wouldn't complain if Kenji Kamiyama was brought back either. Even though he's already done a film - and his style is better suited for 26 episode TV series - he's done the best work in the franchise.

Not a big fan of Oshii's GITS work, but he brings a distinct style and anything that gets him away from live-action CGI slugs is good in my book. With his name-recognition he makes the most sense, but because of the 2015 Live-Action Patlabor I don't think the scheduling fits.

edit: just read it's already started production. Yep, no chance it's Oshii.

The ANN article says it's already started production and since Oshii's busy working on Patlabor right now, it puts him out of the running.

This is probably for the better. Not a fan of Oshii's GITS stuff either, with the exception of the first movie. It'd be great if they could get Kamiyama involved, though. Who knows, maybe they could even convince Shirow to drop the hentai for a second to contribute something.

Arise and it´s great manga companion are in my oppinion only retconning things to the SaC series(the other universes are way too different) like any new media and aren´t setting up a forth continuety. Maybe Ep. 4 will prove me wrong. If anyone can source anything different please do. I coundn´t find anything solid one way or the other.

They can do whatever they want, but it just won't match the original. Not that the newer movies were bad, but the original just spoiled me.

I think that given the disparity between the origin story of how Section 9 was brought together it's best, and most enjoyable, to take the separate series as just that. Separate reimaginings of the GitS universe.
