Damn that is horrible, I hope she makes a full recovery but knowing that she has two dozen stab wounds to the neck I doubt that she'll ever be the same again. Sad

This is horrible, I really hope she pulls through and that her agency gives her the support to deal with the physical and psychological after-effects of this. Wasn't there another stabbing incident a year ago? For a country with such low crime rates as Japan, to have two similar incidents within the same industry and in such a short time frame speaks volumes of how sick these people can be. Sadly, unless the overlords of the idol industry stop encouraging and catering this horrible, obsessive behaviour, it's certain we'll keep hearing from this kind of incidents. Tomita's case is especially frustrating since she'd alerted the police to this guy's behavior already. Really hoping she recovers.

It is disturbing how obsessed some fans can become. I hope Tomita will recover from this terrible incident. Sad

So if she told the cops beforehand and the cops still didn't do jack squat about it I blame them as well for not listening to her story. Police can't be this inept seriously.

I'm sincerely hoping that she survive this ordeal and may the person that responsible get punished severely.

Just in case someone decided to do the same old routine of thinking that Japan is the only country with this problem, please read the comment here.

これはさすがにアウトだ。Like nope. Stabbing books and CDs is one thing, this is another.

Unfortunately, kids and teens won't buy 100+ copies of a CD to get things like extra popularity contest votes and... handshake event tickets. Ultimately, production companies might see fallout from attacks like this one as a cost of doing business, as they wouldn't be able to achieve their present level of success without the dangerously-obsessed part of the fanbase.

If anything, a crazed fan's stabbing of an anime figure could be an indication of a tendency for violent mannerisms.

You aren't wrong about that this type of industry only adds to the problem which like I said is psychological in nature and these people who follow these idols continue to think that these individuals are only available to them and them alone and the thought process of these companies are sick regarding them taking advantage of the individuals who clearly have problems and the idols who they regularly use and abusewith their schedules and practices. Overall the system like I said in previous posts needs a major revamp for this type of situation to not happen again.

Sometimes I think that Japan needs a little bit of the litigation obsession that the US has.

What should happen here (whether or not she survives the attack), is that her family should sue the production company(s) she was associated with, and make the claim that they are partially responsible for the crime by knowingly inciting these types of crazy fans and creating her idol persona. And they should sue for a good portion of all the profits that the company made off of that marketing "tactic".

In some ways the idol business in Japan is rotten. And I don't mean business corruption or criminal activity, what I mean is that the success of the business model preys upon deep seeded societal problems in Japan. It's like how McDonalds' profits always increase during a recession. There's something unseemly about it from a human perspective, and every once in a while something like this happens and it becomes easy for all to see.

What the hell kind of demon-possessed psychopath does it take to do something like this? Was reading about this on the BBC earlier, absolutely gut-wrenching. Praying for her speedy (as possible) and safe recovery.

Man, 2016 has been horrible to musicians.

Words cannot describe. It's a miracle Tomita survived such a brutal attack, especially with multiple stab wounds to her neck. And at such a young age...I pray that she will recover and get a good counceler to help ease the mental trauma.

No doubt given the rise in Idol attacks, the industry is changing in a major way. More so than the attacks on the AKB idols previously mentioned. Most likely idols will now be escorted by bodyguards to and from events.

Though I think part of the blame is on the Japanese police. Given what was said in the article, there were tons of red flags that they failed to take action. So hopefully they will be more vigilant in the future.

Get well Ms. Mayu.

Maybe I'm being unfair, but it's things like this that make me feel like the entire industry is built on marketing toward mentally unstable lunatics(and that there is a surprisingly large number of them in Japan). This level of obsession is almost common at this point. And it's f*cking disgusting.

Japan, why do you have such narrow-minded, obsessive dudes who does things like this? OMG... Hope the girl will recover, but I'll be damn realistic. 2 dozen knife stabs, neck and body... Crying or Very sad Still hopes for a miracle.
