Can they really get Shueisha titles Viz doesn't want now?! I'm so excited! Seven Seas is running a customer survey right now and taking license requests. They didn't list any rules on what you could request, any unlicensed Japanese manga or light novel seems fair game. I took the liberty of requesting Kagen no Tsuki by Ai Yazawa. It's published by Shueisha, but Viz has been sitting on it since, well, it was originally published in 1998. I also requested Chiho Saitou's manga Torikae Baya, which is published by Shogakukan, but again, Viz is letting it sit by the wayside. My third request was for Akiko Higashimura's (Jellyfish Princess) autobiographical Kakukaku Shikajika, which is also published by Shueisha and also a really unlikely shojo manga license. A girl can dream!
So, go! Request any unlicensed manga or light novel you've been dreaming about buying in English from any publisher! Keep dreams alive! |

This is what's surprising. Because while Shueisha has let some of a Viz's competition publish some of their titles the first part of TLR was a JUMP series and you think Shueisha would like to keep all of of JUMPs(especially Weekly SJ) titles under Viz's domain. |

Like all the others commenting here, I did not see this coming. I bought all the Japanese volumes already, except the last few of Darkness. Not sure if I want to take up even more shelf space with the English version, but I have to support this. Might go for digital in this case. Though it would be real nice if they could release the full color version in print or digital. They mentioned that it was going to be the standard black and white with color inserts.

That is a good point, but I am pretty sure and I at least hope Seven Seas' legal team did look into that because that could bring potential lawsuits by people being accused for possessing CP and ultimately Seven Seas could be accused of distributing CP as well. As for the fact the TLR Darkness is basically porn, Seven Seas uses shrink wrap to conceal their more racier titles like MonMusu and MonMusu can be as much ( ir even more) borderline porn as TLR Darkness can be. |

Not a fan of TLR, but I'm excited that this might possibly open the door for other Weekly Jump titles getting licensed out to other publishers. Especially older titles that will never have a chance of being released by VIZ. |

Possibly, but one has to consider that, in Japan, the original creator(s) often technically own the rights to their works. It's just that artists aren't exactly businessmen, either, so most rely on their publishers for stuff like licensing. This is why Leiji Matsumoto's works are owned by numerous publishers in Japan (he apparently doesn't have his own studio to manage his rights). It could be that Seven Seas was able to license TLR through the creators directly rather than Shueisha, similar to how Vertical licensed Prophecy (which was a Jump X title). |

Whoa, a Jump title licensed by someone besides Viz? Clearly Viz was never going to touch the series (honestly can't really blame them), so I imagine this is very good news for TLR fans. Hopefully this means Shueisha will be a bit more willing to license out series that Viz had passed over on the future.

Yeah that's why I figured the series was a lost cause. A publisher had had access to it all this time and didn't release it despite the demand, so I figured it was never going to happen unless like Viz went out of business or something. But apparently Seven Seas was able to license it anyway. And that's how it should be IMO, if one publisher passes on the chance to license it, then the rights-holders should give another publisher the chance to do so. I felt like the series was being held hostage. |

Barnes and Noble had no problem stocking A Girl on the Shore from Vertical recently, which had graphic sex scenes involving middle schoolers. |

So Viz Media decided to pass it over to Seven Seas Entertainment, huh? Well in any case, I'm glad to know that To Love -Ru is finally coming to English shelves later this year.
If possible, I would like to see this manga have its own audio drama |
