Shows don't need to to conform to anyone's views or standards and have a right to exist without hiding themselves away on a direct to video release.

I mean, the show getting yoinked off multiple viewing outlets kinda suggests that there are certain standards that it isn't conforming to.

At the very least it's good to see people no longer trying to pretend how no one is against this show or its fans and that people here have fully embraced their distaste for this to the point of inventing crazy conspiracy theories on why it's so popular because of some evil YouTuber asking their followers to do something as unspeakable as vote for a show they like through a vote ranking website that people have been doing since 2004. People voting for a show you don't like is not a troll or scam.

It's also the #1 anime on r/anime, outranking My Hero Academia, Fate, and Black Clover. It's already being hailed as the golden standard that Reiwa Era ecchi anime should strive to be. After all, people love some good old ecchi fun. I think this is a win for the Streisand Effect. Although to be fair Ishuzoku Reviewers has been in the Top 10 since it started airing, so it's always been popular. This just blasted it with a spotlight.

For it to be the streisand effect wouldn't it have to be the result of somebody actively trying to erase its presence? Because what's happened with this is that it's ended up crossing the line for individual streaming platforms/broadcast channels that decided not to air it accordingly. I really don't get where folks are coming from thinking this is some big censorious conspiracy to prevent anyone from being able to access their monstergirl porn.

+ 1000. This really only goes to show the absolutely moronic (and creepy AF) highs (or lows) many anime fans are willing to reach nowadays. Oh, well, I guess years and years of most shows being nothing but creepy otaku pandering trash are starting to pay off.. Rolling Eyes
What the show is really doesn't matter to them, it could be a drama show about lawyers or a SOL show about grade school kids that Funimation cancelled and they would still be just as mad. Something was cancelled and they howl about it and complain of censorship whether they even saw the show or not.

"The Streisand effect is a phenomenon whereby an attempt to hide, remove, or censor a piece of information has the unintended consequence of publicizing the information more widely, usually facilitated by the Internet."

I suppose you could say Funimation removing it counts. Lots of people hear a show was "too hot for America!" and removed so they go check it out for themselves. I've now started seeing some buzz on it from those people who went after the Uzaki-chan blood drive who are now saying it deserves to not exist at all and deeming it "a grotesque male fantasy that sets women back 200 years" including questioning how Passione could associate themselves with a series like this. I only see this escalating even further from here.

I don't think they really care about censorship or there will be a lot of articles and videos about how Sentai changed the name of Rifle is Beautiful to Chidori RSC.

That's really not the same thing as what happened here, and even if it was: sex sells. A censorship based on sexual content in is far more newsworthy than a name change in a show not many people anticipated, watched or talked about.

I read several anime blogs that care greatly about censorship and most didn't even comment on the title change with Rifle is Beautiful since it was such a small issue. Title changes are frequently done with anime shows for several reasons such as copyright and better English wording. A title change is the smallest change that can be made to a show and none of the content in that show was changed. On the other hand Interspecies Reviewers was pulled from Funimation in the middle of the simulcast which naturally got a lot of attention.

Guess you don't hang out on certain sites and boards cause people complain about title changes all the time. I remember people complained about Elves Don't Diet! becoming the more politically correct "Plus-Sized Elf". Or "Please Don't Bully Me Nagataro" changed bully to "toy with" because bullying is too sensitive a topic. I assume RIfle is Beautiful was changed to avoid talking about guns, let alone praising them.

But usually there's bigger matters to complain about with censorship than titles, like the in story translations. Pick your battles and all that. Plus a lot of people end up using the Japanese title anyway.

But really, comments like "I bet they don't even care about X at all" are just strawman arguments. They're not addressing anyone's actual point, just setting up an imagined statement no one ever said to represent the other side to go after. If that's all someone has to say, they probably shouldn't say anything at all.
