If they had stuck with an early arc in the Dragonball story, with YOUNG Goku and Krillin (WHERE THE HELL IS KRILLIN?! I MEAN REALLY?!) training for and fighting in their first tournament, THAT could have been a great movie.

Other than stating the obvious pee-pee and butt shots, could you even name actors small enough to fill the roles of Goku and Krillen?

My god, it's not high art-it's an action movie based on a martial arts/sci fi cartoon. I don't think one can really expect an oscar winning caliber movie out of the deal

The first Matrix and CTHD won a few Oscars...

xD As long as no one says Wee Man or that guy from Austin Powers, I'm all good.

Bulma looks like a crack whore than a technological genius.

Bulma looked like a ditzy boy-hunting girl in the original. She never looked like a technological genius, and she didn't want to. Razz

Actually, Bulma came off more like a geeky fan-girl in the original series.
She was interested in dating, but she was more into working at her company than any serious relationships. Hell, she barely pays attention to Trunks the way that Chi Chi pays attention to Gohan. Of course, Chi Chi tends to be a bit more possessive, but the point is that they should've depicted her in a more average way, and not just another Buffy[Or should I say Devil Hunter Yohko?] wannabe.

C'mon, what if she shows as much skin as Yohko? Laughing

No, you shouldn't. Joss Whedon drafted the first Buffy the Vampire Slayer film screenplay in 1988. The first Devil Hunter Yohko video shipped in Japanese on December 21, 1990.

Of course, the show, a different entity entirely, ends up being closer in style to Yohko. Also, if it took him four years to even get a theatrical deal off the ground, it's very likely that he changed the script along the way, which means he could've heard of the series-especially since ADV was in the importing business around the same time, and might have had a mail-order thing going as well. According to his Wikipedia entry, his whole family has a history in the entertainment industry, so it's not implausible. Anyway, I'm ready to complain about DB right now, not Devil Hunter Buffy... Roshi's wearing a racy anime girl shirt. That makes me happy. Smile

On the other hand, my first reaction was "Who's the cone-head in the bottom-right?".

Uh, you haven't read the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer film script, have you? You don't know why the script is dramatically differently from the final film (which he didn't direct and didn't have final script approval) and closer to the television series (which he did direct and did have final script approval), do you?

Uh, you don't know how long it takes for a screenwriter to pitch his first spec script (or any spec script), do you? You don't know how most spec scripts don't even get made, do you?

We know you're not ready. Merely reading Wikipedia as "research" or not knowing what you criticize is what makes this unfounded speculation not ready for scrutiny. If only that stopped you from making the flippant comment in the first place.

I do know that the tv version of the movie was clearly written with enough time for him to have been exposed to anime.

That just proves my point that the script he eventually sold isn't necessarily that much different from the film.

Yes, because people in the entertainment industry have never heard of anime, except for Leo or Vince Vaughn or the Wachowskis, or... Rolling Eyes

That's pretty broad there, GATSU. Even if they haven't heard the term "anime," they still would know about it. Even if they didn't know it was anime.

That is not all you claimed earlier. Please prove how the Buffy the Vampire Slayer television series is different from the original 1988 Buffy film script in such a way that it "rips off" Devil Hunter Yohko, as you claimed earlier.

The fact that it took Joss Whedon four years to get his Buffy spec script made into a film, after being extensively rewritten by others but then restored to his original vision for the television version under his creative control, does not proves this point.

You're shifting goalposts again. You weren't claiming that Whedon had merely heard of anime. You made a specific claim that Whedon ripped off Devil Hunter Yohko, when the first Buffy the Vampire Slayer screenplay predated the first Japanese release of Devil Hunter Yohko by two years. Please prove your claim.
