2025 Detective Conan Film Drops to #2, Live-Action Thus Spoke Rohan Kishibe Film Opens at #4

Live-action Blank Canvas film drops to #5, Gekijōban Utano☆Princesama♪ TABOO NIGHT XXXX to #7

Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback (Meitantei Conan: Sekigan no Flashback), the 28th film in the Detective Conan (Case Closed) franchise, dropped from #1 to #2 in its sixth weekend last weekend. The film sold 255,000 tickets for 376,250,000 yen (about US$2.61 million) from Friday to Sunday. The film has sold a total of 8.84 million tickets for a cumulative total of 12,802,932,400 yen (about US$88.97 million).

The film opened at #1 at the Japanese box office. The film earned 3,438,626,700 yen (about US$24.15 million) and sold 2,314,690 tickets in its first three days, a new opening-weekend record for the franchise.

Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback opened in Japan on April 18, and has screenings in IMAX, MX4D, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema in addition to regular screenings. The film opened in 522 theaters in Japan, a new record for the franchise. King Gnu performs the theme song "Twilight!!!."

Katsuya Shigehara (unit director of Detective Conan: Kurogane no Submarine) directed the film. Takeharu Sakurai (various Detective Conan movies) wrote the script.

The live-action film of "At a Confessional" ("Zangeshitsu"), the first-ever story in Hirohiko Araki's JoJo's Bizarre Adventure spinoff manga Thus Spoke Rohan Kishibe (Kishibe Rohan wa Ugokanai), opened on Friday and ranked at #4. The film sold 177,000 tickets and earned 260,737,920 yen (about US$1.81 million) in its first three days.

Issei Takahashi (Whisper of the Heart, live-action Ikebukuro West Gate Park, March comes in like a lion) reprises the title role from the previous nine television installments and film. Marie Itoyo also returns after playing Kyoka Izumi in previous installments.

Kazutaka Watanabe returned to direct the new film at NHK Enterprises and P.I.C.S. Yasuko Kobayashi returned after scripting most of the previous live-action installments and the various JoJo's Bizarre Adventure anime. Naruyoshi Kikuchi also returned to compose the music with Shin Ongaku Seisaku Kōbō. Isao Tsuge again supervised the character designs and designed the costumes. ASMIK Ace is distributing the film.

The live-action film of Akiko Higashimura's semi-autobiographical manga Blank Canvas: My So-Called Artist’s Journey (Kakukaku Shikajika) manga fell from #4 to #5 in its second weekend. The film earned 125,436,620 yen (about US$869,400) from Friday to Sunday and has so far earned 404,794,060 yen (about US$2.80 million).

The film opened on May 16.

The film stars Mei Nagano as high school girl Akiko and Yō Ōizumi as art teacher Hidaka.

Kazuaki Seki directed the film. Date-san co-wrote the script with original creator Higashimura. Yuki Munakata composed the music.

Dragon Heart - Adventures Beyond This World, a new film from controversial religious organization Happy Science (Kōfuku no Kagaku), opened at #6. The film earned 117,663,280 yen (about US$817,600) in its first three days.

The late Ryuho Okawa is credited as the executive producer and original creator. Isamu Imakake (The Mystical Laws) directed the film. kouta performed the theme song "Dragon Heart."

The film stars Yūsuke Kobayashi as Ryuusuke and Chinatsu Hirose as Tomomi. The cast also includes Shigeru Chiba, Shunsuke Takeuchi, and Shinichirō Miki.

Gekijōban Utano☆Princesama♪ TABOO NIGHT XXXX (read as: TABOO NIGHT KISSES), the new Utano☆Princesama Maji LOVE film, dropped from #6 to #7 in its third weekend. The film earned 137,056,540 yen (about US$952,300) from Friday to Sunday, and has earned a cumulative total of 516,185,320 yen (about US$3.58 million).

The film opened in Japan on May 9 and debuted at #4. The film sold 92,000 tickets and earned 189,399,380 yen (about US$1.29 million) in its first three days.

Takeshi Furuta (Uta no Prince Sama Maji Love Kingdom, Visual Prison) was the film's chief director, and Akiko Seki (Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle- Rhyme Anima, Lycoris Recoil episode director) directed the anime at A-1 Pictures. Chinatsu Kurahana, the original character designer of several Utano☆Princesama films and series, was again credited for the film's original character designs, and Maki Fujioka (Uta no Prince Sama Maji Love Kingdom, Utano☆Princesama Legend Star, Utano☆Princesama Maji LOVE ST☆RISH Tours) was the character designer. Hiroshi Nakajima (Uta no Prince Sama Maji Love Kingdom, Utano☆Princesama Maji LOVE ST☆RISH Tours) was the CG director, Takeshi Ōkawa (Utano☆Princesama Maji LOVE ST☆RISH Tours, NieR:Automata Ver 1.1a) was the sub CG director, and Katsuyoshi Miyajima (Utano☆Princesama Maji LOVE ST☆RISH Tours) was the character modeling director. Elements Garden composed the music.

Tabekko Dōbutsu THE MOVIE, the film based on the Tabekko Dōbutsu brand of animal-shaped butter biscuits, dropped from #7 to #10 in its fourth weekend.

The film opened in Japan on Thursday, May 1. The film earned 176,110,370 yen (about US$1.22 million) in its first four days.

Hitoshi Takekiyo (After School Midnighters, FLCL: Grunge) directed the film at Marza Animation Planet, and Tetsuhiro Ikeda (FLCL: Grunge, Inzai Aru Aru Monogatari) wrote the script. Gin Hashiba (Magical Destroyers) composed the music at TBS TV. Chikako Yokota was the sound director at Glovision. Riko Koarai was the creative producer, Masato Ui was the animation producer, Yōsuke Sakai was the CG supervisor, Kiyoaki Kamei was the art director, and Hiroki Takahashi was the line producer. Travis Japan performed the film's theme song "Would You Like One?"

Kotaro Sudo planned and produced the film. The Klockworx Co., Ltd. and TBS TV are distributing the film.

The Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle- movie did not rank in the top 10 in its 14th weekend, but still earned 65,635,100 yen (about US$456,100) from Friday to Sunday, and has earned a cumulative total of 1,655,992,600 yen (about US$11.50 million).

The theatrical screening of a performance of the A3! franchise's Mankai Stage A3! Four Seasons Live 2024 stage performance stayed at #1 in the mini-theater rankings in its second weekend. The stage performance ran in Japan from October to November last year.
