Hmmm...this volume sounds like it has a lot of potential, but not much content in terms of story progression. This worries me, as there are only 5 volumes out in Japan and it's currently on hiatus. Nobody wants to fall in love with a new series and then be left hanging for years on end. I might wait until more volumes come out and see if at least the story moves along at a faster pace after volume 1. I don't mind hiatuses as much as most if what's already been written is worth reading and doesn't end on a cliffhanger. For example, NANA is pretty much complete in my eyes; as much as I'd love to read more, the story was so good and the end point seemed satisfying enough to warrant full recommendation to any shojo/josei manga fan.

I started this back when it was announced, and have all 5 Japanese volumes on my manga shelf next to Hoshi wa Utau. The first couple volumes read as your usual shojo fantasy with a vaguely uncomfortable core relationship, but from volume 3 on it picks up and plows back into Takaya's usual deconstruction territory. She also gets more mileage out of her talent for monster design that Fruits Basket only ever got to show off once. It's definitely worth reading to there, at least.

So I should wait until there are at least 3 volumes out. Thanks! It does sound fun, but Fruits Basket was a bit slow in the beginning, too.
