The story of Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation was cheesy as hell and kind of stupid at times, but the game was very fun to play. Meanwhile, Ace Combat: Assault Horizon semed to have a decent story as far as I could tell, but the constant switching of modes I had to do and the bug in the "chase the missile and shoot it down" bug that forced me to restart the stage from the very beginning every time I failed turned me off that game in a big, big way.

So the question I have is... on which side of that border does this recent Ace Combat game fall? Because honestly, even if Assault Horizon didn't have that bug, the gameplay itself generally annoyed me. I much preferred the non-interruptive style of Fires of Liberation.

Assault Horizon was garbage.. I played it for about 30 min and never picked it up again. Between the ridiculous dog fight mode, where it took a bazillion gun hits to shoot down a plane. To the COD style game play that became apparent early on. It was a Dumpster Fire.. in an otherwise great lineage of Arcade flight sims.

Lets hope this is not another Assault Horizons.. and more of a game like 6.

I think the main reason why I liked AC6 so much is that each mission was a big confrontation, and you were a fighter pilot that sometimes had to choose where to place your priorities, with the flow of the battle changing depending on what you chose to do. That, and the game didn't break you out of your flow by forcing you to switch modes and the likes.

Compared to that, Assault Horizon felt more like a collection of minigames where you had various amounts of control in what was going on. I think the dumbest parts were these bombing runs, where you had to fly to one of the "starting points" just so you could initiate it instead of... you know, just flying dynamically over there and deal with it as you preferred. And yes, the dogfight mode where you didn't really control your plane, but instead were placed on a railshooter mode that was meant to look impressive more than play well.
