Currently, both anime air on Friday evenings, with Crayon Shin-chan airing at 4:30 p.m, while Doraemon will air at 5:00 p.m.

Doraemon currently airs at 7PM and Shin-chan at 7:30PM on Fridays.

In October, they will move to Saturdays. Shin-chan will switch to airing first at 4:30 PM, and Doraemon will follow at 5:00 PM.

Unlike action shonen animes, Doraemon and Crayon-Shin Chan are unpopular in the Western countries because both of them are for children and their families. I'm sure some westerners have heard of two animes.

Ironically in the US, Shin-chan was dubbed and promoted as a series aimed at adults.

it makes sense.

I can watch doraemon but shin chan is totally not my thing, both are no match for chibi maroko or detective conan. Cool

How sad that nowadays Detective Conan is compared to Doraemon, Shin Chan, Sazae San and Chibi MarukoChan -- despite that manga version of DC is NOT kid friendly.

That's quite noteworthy, considering Doraemon has had the same opening theme for like 13 years.

In Japan, they had a special episode of "Sekai Uketai Jugyo" featuring Detective Conan, in which they discussed why Conan remains so popular after all these years. They attributed it's success to the fact that kids who grew up reading the series continue reading it as adults, and then can share it with their children who read it alongside their parents.

So I think that it's a cultural difference as to what is considered "kid friendly". Westerners would probably think the amount of blood and murders in the manga are not appropriate for children, but Japanese people certainly don't think so.

Well, I'm from latin-america and I remember watching Doraemon and Crayon-Shin Chan as a kid. Doremon was shown on a local cable channel while Shin Chan was shown on Fox Kids. Doraemon's dub was pretty faithful to the original japanese version, but I think Shin Chan was dubbed using the U.S script, although in Shin Chan's case the actors added a lot of jokes that weren't present in the original Japanese or U.S version.
Funnily enough, Nobita from Doraemon and Shin Chan were dubbed by the same voice actress in latin-american spanish, she is also the voice of kid Goku.

Which is pretty cool. Looking forward to both of those.

Crayon Shin-chan will have new collaborations, in the vein of the crossovers it has had in the past with Aibou, Kamen Rider, Terminator, Pirates of the Carribbean, and other popular franchises.

Wha? There were Terminator and Pirates of the Carribbean collabs?

Crayon Shin-chan will have a "moving" special on September 13.

I wonder if they mean "moving" as in the Nohara family (or anyone else in the show) is moving to another place and/or if the special will make viewers cry.

To Western anime fans, yes, that's why. But to mainstream Western audiences, not really. It's more likely the fact that both franchises are pretty Japanese-centric and have been running for so long that (without a huge nostalgia factor backing them up) it's rather difficult for Westerners to get into them.
