Which raises the question why they weren't involved in the first place... Budget, I suppose, but if they're trying to make this the Next Big Thing with certain audiences, and they certainly seemed to do that, they'll have to invest in as much publicity as possible, and CLAMP making modern designs for the characters and whatnot would definitely bring that.

I'm just hoping that any future Tokyo Babylon projects end up resulting in them finally finishing X.

I lost all hope. It's been 18 years already, it's time to move on. They are not interested. They don't even know how to finish the story, the reason why they dropped it at the first place. TV series is the closest thing we will ever get to series ending.

What a weird thing to say. Ohkawa-sensei were asked a few years ago if they could finish any of their older unfinished series, which they would do and she said X was an active one they kept revisiting ideas for since they think times have changed and their vision would finally be supported, but they wanted to update it for today's audience first. They had an ending planned long ago, but weren't allowed to use it after its resemblance to a real natural disaster that hit Japan at the time. That's why it went on hiatus as they shopped around to other magazines that would approve their original vision, but none did. Then they moved onto other series. Ohkawa-sensei said she revisited the original vision for the ending in Tsubasa, too, though the context was different there.

Quite a few fans were thinking a new anime for Tokyo Babylon was an attempt to restart X so they could do exactly what they wanted to do in that interview. We don't know for sure, but after CCS Clear Card's bold decision to continue the anime from the original anime's canon instead of the manga, it seems very possible.

I assume it must have been timing as CLAMP has been busy doing character designs for a lot of shows lately and they have that upcoming Netflix project.

No, Fuuma gonna keep holding that sword up for another 10 years at this point. HIs arms have to be tired by this point; all these years holding this sword up.

And I think its weird how their interest is kinda dead with X after they shifted Subaru's role. It's like they completed that story arc and was like... welp, we're done now. I get that all the main characters were shifting sides and all, I figured that out but it was just like... Subaru shifted officially and... its frozen for years.

...I know that's now why they stopped the story but still... just odd timing.

There will always be a little spark of hope that they will finish X someday. It was one of the first mangas I read and it remains a favorite. The TB renewal gives me new hope
