Best live action series with the worst title
 So excited for more delightful heartwarming fluff from these two!
FYI in case anyone is interested the manga is up to vol 3 in English, not 2 as stated in the article, and vol 4 is released next month

I so wish that Toyota's other manga, Papa to oyaji no uchigohan had the same amount of attention as CheriMaho. :/ CheriMaho is cute and all but it's just another BL romcom, it simply couldn't keep my interest at all. Whereas Papa to oyaji is not only one of the best cooking themed manga I've read (along with Rokuhoudou yotsuiro biyori, currently being butchered in live action) but also one of the best family themed manga as well. It's really really good, with really charming and relatable characters in very relatable life situations, very relatable struggles and highs and lows... It doesn't sugarcoat raising kids, doesn't handwave away parents' frustration and stress, doesn't pretend it's all happy fun time all the time, but also has such a warm and optimistic approach. And the recipes are the sort that one can actually easily follow and recreate at home, starting with easy and getting more advanced as the characters learn more and more.
I'm fairly certain that the only reason it didn't receive any adaptation is that while it's not BL (but then the two main characters don't have any hetero romance happening either, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ no word on the mangaka's intentions but I guess it's a "let your imagination fill in the gaps" thing) it's about two single fathers living together and forming a family unit. So while BL has its audience, I guess something like Papa to oyaji would be too "gay" for a casual audience but not gay enough for people who want a BL romance. |
