Probably not, but hopefully this finally makes Amazon pull those all-region dvds that are obvious bootlegs(there's probably blu-rays too, but it's mostly dvds).

You do realize this is not about anime bootlegs, right? It's about movies like Harry Potter and TV series like Boardwalk Empire.

As for "living down" some issue about bootlegged Sailor Moon shows, if most people are like me, I had never heard of this before, nor will it discourage me from continuing to use Amazon. Sure it would be good if Amazon can keep its third-party retailers from selling bootlegs, but it has thousands of sellers distributing millions of items. I suggest that if you see a bootlegged item offered for sale at Amazon that you notify Amazon of that fact. How many of those "all-region" DVDs have you reported?

I've seen a few times Stars with English subtitles or COMPLETE COLLECTION - dual audio releases (dubbed perfect). With mandatory Stars season, which never made it into US Wink

I absolutely approve of this. Many times I've been in Half Price Books and complained that I've found bootleg anime DVDs for sale. Just the other day, I found Tsubasa Chronicle on the shelf, episodes 1-26, dual audio collection, region 0. I can't imagine HPB didn't know either, since it had zero indication of any copyright on it and it was also priced at $4.99...considerably less than the other legit complete collections on the shelf. Not only is this bad for the producers and content owners of any type of DVD (anime or Hollywood), it's bad for the fan. They think they're getting a legit product at a fantastic value, when really they are just getting counterfeit crap.

As for Amazon specifically, there have been a few instances where I've ordered from a Marketplace ad off a legit product and received a bootleg. There are also tons of listings on Amazon for products (mainly Hollywood TV shows) that have never gotten a DVD release, and a company has taken TV rips from some BitTorrent tracker and decided to market them for a profit. Those people should be stopped as well. Hopefully Warner follows through and this will decrease the amount of bootleg material on Amazon. Although, if you really want a bootleg hub, eBay is where they should be focusing their attention...especially for anime. I can't count the number of Macross Frontier subbed in English sets I've found on there.

Half Price Books just resells what gets brought to them, they get hundreds of items a day, they can't check every single one for copyright, especially as it happens so rarely if you count every piece of merch they have. I'm not sure how they check the value of anime dvds, but if they compare it anywhere the counterfeit seasons will naturally be less than legitimate ones on most websites, so they would price it based on that.

I usually do, but it really does nothing unless multiple people report it. Because I'll still see the listings for the reported bootlegs weeks & months after reporting.

Here's the most recent one I found and reported last month, which I'm still seeing.

I think that's the problem used bookstores really needs to address, as it'll be a problem if they keep having customers trying to return the bootlegs and hurt their profit margin.

I have the same issue with the used book store nearest me, where they can't tell the difference. It called 2nd & Charles, it's a spin-off of Books-a-Million.

Went last week and noticed so many bootlegs for DVDs. It was mostly obvious in their anime section, where I'd say more than 50% of the stuff on shelves were bootlegs(including Sailor Moon season sets, Please Teacher/Twins sets and a few Ghibli movies). They even had that one I pointed out above that Amazon has listed too. Complaining does nothing to them until you buy it and try to return it. It's to the point where I don't even bother to attempt to buy any anime DVDs from that store.

Hell, the aforementioned Sailor Moon dvd was up like 6 months before they did anything about it. And of course there first action was quite hilarious.
