I actually got the chance to play the beta last weekend. I have to say, kudos to the development staff on this one. This is the first Final Fantasy game to feel like Final Fantasy in a long time.

The references, the detail in the world, the story, the jobs. It's a wonderful experience so far.

I love how the guy is talking about how important communication is in an MMORPG and yet he's promoting yet another tool being used in MMOs to lessen or eliminate any need for communication or socialization at all.

For those who played the failed version of 14 before, how does this compare? What notable changes were made to the previous iteration?

I hope it's tested better than the last one.. when 14 first came out it was pretty much still in Alpha stage. Embarassed

Well, I have no idea right now. I found a ton of "bugs" earlier in the game, but already, most of those bugs are either gone or... were a result of my own stupidity in the first place.

I never got to play the previous version, but I saw gameplay videos. It's interesting in that the game still looks like FFXIV and plays similar to it, but the tweaks here and there, plus the completely revamped storyline and interactions, make the game so much better. I can't stop playing the beta, though... I may not buy the game itself. Pay to play is not within my budget. ):

I can't even list all the stuff they've changed or fixed. It's literally a new game, story and world are pretty much the only core components that have survived the process. The very first beta for 1.0 was horribly buggy and barely playable, the release version was pretty bad for a while too. I mean, most MMOs at launch have a horrid time, but 14 had some serious problems that needed more development time to get them fixed up. Beta version is, and I'm not being spurious or hyperbolic, vastly superior to 1.0 in its finished form. Even at the end of the first game, when it was patched up and was actually pretty fun to play, just beta is better. The complete release is gonna be great, and I'm happily looking forward to it.
