Good lord has everyone around the world this year suddenly became so self conscious all of the sudden? I mean 2015 has been the year of everyone getting too sensitive or PC over evey little thing someone else does...... I mean this is ridiculous!!

Ah online text, the one way misunderstandings begin on the Internet and how they have been since the advent of it. Without a voice behind posts, it doesn't take much to misunderstand what others say and how they say it, especially when it was a simple reply. Of course, by now, you'd think people would be more net savvy; unfortunately, everyone seems to get their feelings hurt easily. |

This is not something new this year. This new mentality about what is said in public, whether it is on Facebook, other social media, the internet, and TV has been growing for years. As we enter the new year, it will continue to get worse.

Anyway, I can clearly understand that she said "Thank you for those who wanted to come. And even more thanks to those who did." as in, she's grateful for those who wanted to come but couldn't, but it's a better feeling for her to see the fans there... I mean, it's not that hard to interpret... |

Not much of news really. Misunderstandings happen and creators, particularly female creators but also just creators in general, are held to overly high standards as usual. And some of her criticizers have points too, especially regarding financial situations.
To the other people in this thread: to oversimplify this as "people getting offended" isn't going to help anyone. Not only does it mean nothing, as people having emotions isn't exactly something that's able to be criticized ("people should just not care about anything" isn't a stance), this is obviously more complex than that, a situation that revolves around the standards creators are held up to (especially in Japan) and the opportunities presented by social media for said creators to speak their minds and what that means for their fans. See also: Phil Fish, French Canadian game dev, who said some really horrible things, but most people who hate him for it have said worse. But again, not really anything out of the usual. |

Ugh. This is why I don't use Twitter. The 140-character restriction seemingly makes people have knee-jerk, hive-mind reactions to almost everything. When the hive decides that someone has done something inappropriate, regardless of whether they actually did, everyone automatically jumps all over them... most of them thinking they're just putting in their two cents, not realizing what it's like for hordes of strangers on the internet to suddenly turn on you. Any random comment can turn into a scandal just because someone interpreted it negatively and got the ball rolling.

"feeling disqualified from being a fan" is such a thing in the world exist?
I thought "a fan" is simply someone that likes something very much that keeps doing it over and over regardless of public opinion and trends. I guess I'm disqualified of being a Dr. Who or a Harry Potter "fan" but I never cared about the "qualification" to begin with. This is Japan, people. most unsociable and unsincere people in the world, they smile at you and tell you everything is okay but is just a face. They wanna be "liked" by you but inside of them, they despise you. Do you think Taylor Swift, Beyonce and Macklemore would be answering back tweets like those??? Pff, gimme a break, they don't care. They're doing a job, if they try to have a normal life like Aya Hirano, they get condemned. The "hot water" of the actress of Eva is just the result of her trying to get in touch with an oversensitive minority of "fans" that want to be pitied. |

Ahem... From what I can tell, following her on Twitter, she seems grateful virtually all the time. Even after through depression, misinterpretation, or just feeling weird, etc. Also after asking the question as to why in the world would people like Komaeda, she seems cool. Maybe people really just want some straightforward kissy-kissy praise by their favorite VA/singer, and they can get upset easily. TBH, I think it's a honor for that one person to even pay attention to you during their busy time. Uh..that doesn't make sense doesn't it? |

some context... this is basically the eventer v zaitaku thing that has been playing out for some times (years) now. people in the same fandom can value differently as to what they think is good or praiseworthy behavior and conflicts can arise from this. It's really silly to be honest but that's East Asia for you...

I was looking for the offensive comments as I read. I literally had to read it two times just to understand what they were upset about. It's pretty obvious to see where she was coming from and that she did not mean to judge fans who can't make her concerts. Even if she did, it's justifiable. People who pay money to see her sing are truly dedicated and support her career. I'm one of the ones who can't really afford to go to concerts of my favorite artists due to not having the funds, and I can say I wouldn't be offended if any of those artists/bands tweeted out something similar. People these days...Lol.
