This... really isn't a problem.

I mean, the original support was date rape played for comedy. That's apples and oranges with covering up Tharja's butt, that's just not cool.

I'm glad they made the choice to remove that dialogue, because jeez, whoever thought that that dialogue was a good idea had issues.

What? What part of that is rape? I mean the putting something in her drink is an odd parallel, but the concept is to be "see, you were talking to me normally the whole time when you thought I was a girl even though I'm a guy, hopefully you won't be so flustered." I mean it's a bit unusual, and putting it in her drink without her knowing is rather unfortunate writing, but nobody is getting raped. I mean if they changed it so it's just some generic spell cast on the character it would probably work better.

I agree. The effects of the drug itself aren't really a problem, its just badly written.

Changing to just some sort of spell being cast without the use of spiking drinks would be much better.

Changing it to a spell vs a potion wouldnt change what people feel is wrong about it as both are done without consent.

I for one see no problem with something like this though and removing it is just flat out censorship for pretty much little to no reason. If the writers decided to make this scene it should be left as originally intended. Whether or not everyone agrees with it being some kind of date rape fantasy, which it is not, it should not be changed.

Expression should never be censored unless it is directly harmful to someone. Sharing thoughts and ideas freely is what modern societies are based around and flat out censoring and removing any of them from any available media is wrong. If someone wants to make a game with a segment where someone is slipping a potion to genderswap everyone its fine. If someone wants to make a movie that stars hitler in a musical thats fine too. Restricting what can be said based on public opinion is never the right thing to do.

I found a video about that stuff, just put the following: "Fire Emblem Fates: Drugging Debate" from gaijinhunter in YT, is quite interesting.

It was expected in my opinion, but not in that kind of way...

Okay, hang on, lemme stop you there for a minute.

Did the Government intervene? No.

Is there a law against date-rape in games? No.

Did some committee tell them to change it? No.

Nintendo looked at their own content and decided this content had to be changed. The First Ammendment is working just fine, thanks.

Nintendo doesn't want content in their games that seemingly normalizes sexual assault. That's not being draconian, that's being responsible of what they do--especially since the entire point of the date rape was... what? Giggles? Promoting a relationship? At least Springtime for Hitler was satire, this is just bad writing.

Holy crap. I'm a gay guy and just...my mouth is just agape at hearing that this was in the game. Just...it's really kind of hard to express what I'm feeling right now.

Again it wasnt date rape. Nowhere was someone drugged and assaulted as they were helpless. Sure its a little underhanded but whatever. Its a story.

That and censorship directs to the definition of censor which is in this link. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/censor

Anyone that applies those acts defined in the definition is a censor and what they do is censorship. It doesnt matter if its the government, a company, or a random person on the street.

I don't really mind if something like this happens once in awhile, but it seems to be commonplace to see announcements like this constantly saying how companies are taking out content (even if it is minor) for Western releases.

Look, I get it that cultural differences play a factor here. But the people who MIGHT get offended at this sort of thing are in the minority and more likely than not won't even play these games in the first place. Companies have to realize that the perpetually offended crowd isn't their audience.

And so what if they keep scenes like this? At the end of the day, who cares? Will the game be boycotted for including one fleeting "problematic" scene? Will the company go out of business? It isn't censorship, rather it's companies being afraid over nothing. That's what I think anyway.

Nintendo of America did not make the game though, Intelligent Systems, a Japanese company, did.Arguing over the word censored is just a semantics debate. Calling it censored or butchered makes no difference to the discuasion.

I'm not surprised by the change after how they toned down Henry's sociopathic tendancies in Awakening and censored the swimsuits. I suppose this is the new standard Americans can expect from Nintendo from now on after Xenoblaxe Chronicles X and Fatal Frame. I would not be surprised if the gay marriage options are removed either and the hot springs segment skipped.

They should just remove any mention of homosexuality from the game. Problem solved!

The effects of the drug are bad and the purpose of the spell itself are bad. If she is a lesbian character why does she have to be romantically available to the male Mr? The mechanism is gross in multuple ways. Besides the direct date rape similarities there's also the "all lesbians just have to find the right man" stereotype.
They could have just made her bisexual from the get go and done away with it potion crap entirely
. Is it even done across the board? As in straight male characters are available too? Not that that'd be any better because its just all the way wrong.

I'm sorry but... gay conversion? Since when? In fact, its quite the opposite of what happened during that scene.

Soleil (who is a female supporter) is weak against cute girls and the MC was helping her overcome that fear. In no way he was converting her into a lesbian, bissexual person, or a straight one.

Anyway, I think that their problem is with the gay stuff, but I'll put that aside and comment on the drugging part.

Did he poured a gender swap magic powder in her drink? Yes he did.
He then told her when the magic started having the pretended effect, and nothing bad really happened, just a comical conversation. So the problem would be the fact that he put something on her drink, and that could easily be resolved.

There would be no need to censor/remove anything. No drugging, and no "gay conversion" (seriously, someone as to explain me that one).

Honestly, even though they are going to change this for the American release, the fact that this was in the game at all is giving me second thoughts about actually buying it.

I'm just...really tired guys. I'm just really tired of games (and other things) treating being gay like some kind of fetish or a joke.

I'm really tired, and it hurts. I can't really explain how it hurts but it does.

Sad

Good. None of the previous games were well written either (the translations are top notch though) but the last thing this series needs is homophobia and actual date rape apology.
I wonder what they will do with the erotic massage mini games? They shouldn´t have been part of the original game or the series either and i have been playing FE before most of you even knew Marth existed. With perma-death and everything! Is Big N saving up for another "internet controversy" news item to help boost interest. Gr8T.
The game´s DLC milking strategy is what pisses me off the most about this entry and Awakening (or Flying Fairy) had admitted idiotic bikinis censorship despite the T rating so let´s not loose our minds over this on "news" as it isn´t new. BigN further remains the publisher of Bayonetta 2 and most customers are going to skip the majority of the dialogue anyway.
The really early games had real incest btw! The more you now.
