The staff for the second television anime season based on Kiri Wazawa's The Morose Mononokean (Fukigen na Mononokean) manga revealed the Fukigen na Mononokean Tsuzuki (The Morose Mononokean Sequel) title, January premiere date and a new visual for the new season on Thursday.

Itsuro Kawasaki (Magical Girl Ore, Rental Magica, Shining Hearts, Tsukiuta. THE ANIMATION) is directing the season at Pierrot Plus. Takao Yoshioka (Ikki Tousen, High School DxD, Your Lie in April) is returning to handle series composition. Mizuki Aoba (Minna Atsumare! Falcom Gakuen SC) replaces Atsuko Kageyama as character designer.

Hiro Shimono and Koji Yusa will play the new characters Shihō and Gyōsei, respectively. The new characters are two of three influential individuals in the world of the yōkai.

The first television anime season premiered in 2016, and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan. Funimation released the series on home video this past January.

Wazawa launched the manga in Square Enix's Gangan Online web manga site in 2013, and the 11th compiled book volume shipped on June 22. Crunchyroll is publishing Wazawa's original manga digitally in English.
