Sanrio Puroland to Present Stage Reading of Yaoi Novel

Hello Kitty involved in cast

On January 10, Tokyo's Sanrio theme park, Sanrio Puroland, will present a stage reading of a novel, Ikuta-san-chi no ※Kome Ōji ("The Rice Prince of the Ikuta Clan"). What's raising people's eyebrows, though, is that it's a yaoi novel.

The story follows Banri Tatsukawa, whose company goes bankrupt and who then gets thrown into a rice field in a bicycle accident. He's helped by the bearish owner of the field, Amata Ikuta. Banri has a dream of becoming a yuru-chara (regional mascot)-like idol named ※Kome Ōji (the Rice Prince) to help revitalize local agriculture, and Amata shares his concern for rural development, but they'll have to deal with Mr. Wakamiya, who holds farming in contempt.

The show will star Yūta Kasuya as Banri, Daisuke Kishio as Amata, and Tsubasa Hattori as Wakamiya. This being Sanrio Puroland, Hello Kitty will also appear in an unknown role.

The novel will be read twice, once at 1 PM and next at 5 PM. The reading will take place at the Fairyland Theater. Tickets cost 7,000 yen ($57) and can be bought at the ticketing website Ticketpia starting December 5. Those two years old and younger can get in free if they sit on someone's lap.
