ufotable's 2017 Awa Odori Posters Feature Tōken Ranbu

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Anime studio ufotable revealed at the Machi Asobi Vol. 18 event on Friday that its posters for this year's Awa Odori festival will feature characters from the Tōken Ranbu game. The studio is displaying samples of the posters at the event, which is being held in Tokushima from Friday to Sunday.

One of the characters on this year's posters is Hachisuka Kotetsu (pictured far left in above images). His appearance is especially appropriate at the festival in Tokushima because his name comes from the Hachisuka clan. The clan, which kept the character's sword, gained control of the Tokushima domain during the period the Tokugawa shogunate was in power.

ufotable has designed posters for the festival every year since 2009. The studio offered a set of 2009-2016 posters earlier this year.

ufotable also collaborated with The Tokushima Base of Japan's Self-Defense Forces to produce a recruiting poster in 2010. Studio Pierrot partnered to create a poster for the Awa Odori festival in nearby Naruto, Tokushima Prefecture in 2012.

Tokushima's Awa Odori is held every year from August 12 to August 15.
