Japanese Netizens Choose Jump's Best Manga Artist

This summer's upcoming "Weekly Shonen Jump Exhibition" is offering a retrospective on the many great manga that have jumped out of the magazine's pages and into readers' hearts over the last 50 years. The Goo Ranking website asked its readers to choose which Shonen Jump manga artist is the most skilled and while the website says such a barometer is easy to gauge, but art quality past a certain point, can be a matter of style preference.

Readers chose Death Note creator Takeshi Obata as the the top choice. His most popular manga has definitely proved its staying power; its been the subject of multiple on screen versions. Obata is also the artist behind Hikaru no Go, Ayatsuri Sakon, and Bakuman., all of which were adapted into anime series. His latest manga is another work between himself and his frequent collaborator, Tsugumi Ohba.

In second place is legendary Akira Toriyama, the mind behind Dragon Ball, Dr. Slump, and Jaco the Galactic Patrolman and character designer for the Dragon Quest video game series. His characters are recognizable around the world.

Third place went to popular sports manga creator Takehiko Inoue. Inoue's Slam Dunk is a regular poll pick for live-action adaptations and continues to influence celebrities.
