Governor Koike Attends Sword Art Online AR Event in Akihabara
posted on by Kim Morrissy
Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike personally attended a Sword Art Online AR smartphone app kickoff event in Akihabara on January 28. The event was organized by the Tokyo Anime Tourism Committee and was also sponsored by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. Koike, who was wearing Sword Art Online-themed badges limited to the event, promised in a speech that she would push for more international tourism through anime and manga as the Tokyo 2020 Olympics approaches.
The Sword Art Online AR smartphone app is a digital stamp rally with interface inspired by the Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale film. Users can earn points by visiting twelve locations within the Tokyo area. They can use these points to redeem physical goods at the newly reopened Tokyo Anime Center in Ichigaya and take pictures with the Sword Art Online characters using their phone's AR camera.
The key visual of the event is shown below:
The stamp rally runs from January 28 to February 28. The app is available for download from the App Store and Google Play in multiple languages. However, the AR function can only run on iOS devices 9.0 or higher. The AR feature is not supported on Android.
