Madoka Magica Designer Will Draw Live on 'Magia Day'

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Gaiden smartphone role-playing game has taken on a life of its own since debuting last year. The game is approaching its one year anniversary and the staff, including original character designer Ume Aoki, have some special plans in order.

A live event will stream on Abema TV for "Magia Day" on September 1 with special guests Momo Asakura (Iroha Tamaki), Aoi Yūki (Madoka Kaname), Sora Amamiya (Nanami Yachiyo), Shiina Natsukawa (Yui Tsuruno), Ayane Sakura (Felicia Mitsuki), Yui Ogura (Sana Futaba), and Emiri Katō (Kyubey). Ume Aoki will also appear in the program for a live drawing segment.

The new "Ultimate Madoka pick-up gacha" event for the game kicks off on Tuesday. The game's official Twitter account previously streamed a new commercial to celebrate the game's one-year anniversary on Thursday, featuring Russian Olympic skater Alina Zagitova.

The game launched for iOS and Android devices in August 2017.

The game's story, a spinoff of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime, takes place in the burgeoning city of Kamihama. Guided by a strange power, magical girls gather in this town and battle with a new power drawn from witches. Iroha Tamaki arrives in this town and joins other magical girls to search for her missing younger sister Ui. Before long, Homura Akemi also arrives in the town. "If I can understand the mystery of this town, maybe I can save Kaname."

The new character Iroha Tamaki (voiced by Momo Asakura) becomes a magical girl with a wish to save her sister from illness. Madoka Kaname (again voiced by Aoi Yūki) also arrives in Kamihama to search for her missing friend Homura.

The game is getting a stage play adaptation, the first in the Madoka Magica franchise. The play will run at TBS Akasaka ACT Theater in Tokyo from August 24 to September 9.
