Live-Action My Special One Film Opens at #6, New Utano☆Princesama Maji LOVE Film Stays at #7

Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback falls to #8 in its 10th weekend

The live-action film of Momoko Kōda's My Special One (Kimi ga Tokubetsu) manga ranked at #6 in its opening weekend. The film earned 140,053,280 yen (about US$968,000) in its first three days.

The film opened in Japan on June 20. Mei Hata plays protagonist Sahoko Wakaume, while Naniwa Danshi idol group member Kazuya Ōhashi plays Kouta Kirigaya.

These cast members all come from real-life idol or pop groups.

Ayato Matsuda (live-action Holiday Love: Fūfukan Ren'ai) directed the film, with a script by Satoko Okazaki (live-action My Dress-Up Darling).

Kōda launched the manga in Bessatsu Margaret in March 2019.

Gekijōban Utano☆Princesama♪ TABOO NIGHT XXXX (read as: TABOO NIGHT KISSES), the new Utano☆Princesama Maji LOVE film, stayed at #7 in its seventh weekend. The film earned 158,860,000 yen (about US$1.09 million) from Friday to Sunday, and has earned a cumulative total of 1,161,849,900 yen (about US$8.03 million).

The film opened in Japan on May 9 and debuted at #4. The film sold 92,000 tickets and earned 189,399,380 yen (about US$1.29 million) in its first three days.

Takeshi Furuta (Uta no Prince Sama Maji Love Kingdom, Visual Prison) was the film's chief director, and Akiko Seki (Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle- Rhyme Anima, Lycoris Recoil episode director) directed the anime at A-1 Pictures. Chinatsu Kurahana, the original character designer of several Utano☆Princesama films and series, was again credited for the film's original character designs, and Maki Fujioka (Uta no Prince Sama Maji Love Kingdom, Utano☆Princesama Legend Star, Utano☆Princesama Maji LOVE ST☆RISH Tours) was the character designer. Hiroshi Nakajima (Uta no Prince Sama Maji Love Kingdom, Utano☆Princesama Maji LOVE ST☆RISH Tours) was the CG director, Takeshi Ōkawa (Utano☆Princesama Maji LOVE ST☆RISH Tours, NieR:Automata Ver 1.1a) was the sub CG director, and Katsuyoshi Miyajima (Utano☆Princesama Maji LOVE ST☆RISH Tours) was the character modeling director. Elements Garden composed the music.

Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback (Meitantei Conan: Sekigan no Flashback), the 28th film in the Detective Conan (Case Closed) franchise, fell from #6 to #8 in its 10th weekend. The film earned 116,582,500 yen (about US$805,700) from Friday to Sunday, and has earned a cumulative total of 14,170,259,500 yen (about US$97.94 million).

The film is now the 18th highest-grossing film of all time in Japan.

The film opened at #1 at the Japanese box office. The film earned 3,438,626,700 yen (about US$24.15 million) and sold 2,314,690 tickets in its first three days, a new opening-weekend record for the franchise.

Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback opened in Japan on April 18, and has screenings in IMAX, MX4D, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema in addition to regular screenings. The film opened in 522 theaters in Japan, a new record for the franchise. King Gnu performs the theme song "Twilight!!!."

Katsuya Shigehara (unit director of Detective Conan: Kurogane no Submarine) directed the film. Takeharu Sakurai (various Detective Conan movies) wrote the script.

The Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- anime film is back on the list at #9 after a rerun screening that began on June 20. The film earned for 112,392,000 yen (about US$776,800) from Friday to Sunday, and has earned a cumulative total of 3,520,109,032 yen (about US$24.33 million), including its earnings from its first run.

The film has surpassed the total all-time Japanese earnings of 1982 Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space anime film, which earned 2.3 billion yen (about US$14.88 million in current conversion) at the Japanese box office. This makes the Gundam GQuuuuuuX film the second highest-earning film in the Gundam franchise in Japan, with Mobile Suit Gundam Seed FREEDOM holding the all-time high of 4,796,455,740 yen (about US$31.05 million) as of its initial run's final weekend in May 2024. If Gundam Seed FREEDOM's special edition screenings later in 2024 are included, that film has earned a cumulative total of 5.38 billion yen (about US$35.5 million).

The Gundam GQuuuuuuX film opened in Japan on January 17, and debuted at #1 at the Japanese box office in its opening weekend. It sold 352,500 tickets and earned 598,832,300 yen (about US$3.83 million) in its first three days.

The Gundam GQuuuuuuX film added immersive MX4D and 4DX screenings and also added "special footage" that teases the story after the film on February 22.

JUJUTSU KAISEN Hidden Inventory / Premature Death, the compilation film of the "Hidden Inventory / Premature Death" ("Kaigyoku/Gyokusetsu") arc from the second season of the Jujutsu Kaisen television anime, dropped off the list in its fourth weekend.

The live-action film of Tomoki Izumi's Mieruko-chan horror comedy manga left the top 10 in its third weekend.
