San Diego Harbor Police stated they have arrested a 29-year-old Justin Kalior on Sunday in the alleged assault of a 17-year-old cosplayer at San Diego's Comic-Con International event. Kalior is being charged with "sexual contact with a minor and contributing to the delinquency of minor."
The cosplayer, whose name is being withheld because she is a minor, was found unconscious, beaten, and bleeding near the Marriott Marquis and Marina pool by the San Diego Convention Center around 1:00 a.m. Sunday, according to police Sgt. Todd Rakos. Her mother stated that the attack happened on her daughter's birthday, and her first visit to the event. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.
“My daughter was great about checking in all day with me with her phone and when I lost contact with her I kept trying to contact her and I knew something was wrong,” the victim's mother said.
Mixed reports state the girl was suffering from cranial bleeding and admitted to ICU. Authorities would only state that her injuries were serious. Police believe the victim knew Kalior and was with him for most of the day and the two left a party at 11 p.m. Kalior has not been charged with assault.
The police department issued the following statement:
