Sentai Filmworks to Release Gatchaman Fighter on DVD

Section23 Films announced in its July release slate on Tuesday that Sentai Filmworks will release the Gatchaman Fighter (Kagaku Ninja-Tai Gatchaman F) anime on DVD on July 4. The DVD will be in Japanese with English subtitles.

The 1979-1980 series is the third Gatchaman television anime, and it has not previously been released in North America uncut. Saban Entertainment licensed Gatchaman Fighter and its predecessor Gatchaman II in 1996 and combined the two shows to create the 65-episode series Eagle Riders. Only 13 episodes of the series aired in the United States, though all 65 episodes aired in Europe and Australia.

Sentai Filmworks describes the series:

The fight against Leader X was finally over, but a small portion of his evil remained and regenerated into Leader Z! Now, with the aid of the monstrous Count Egobossler, the Gatchaman team's arch-foe is out to destroy the world again, and even though their ranks have been decimated, the Gatchaman force has no choice but to keep fighting. To combat their new foes, they'll need new weapons and new allies, but their mission remains the same: protect the Earth and Mankind, no matter the cost. And that cost may prove to be the ultimate one when the new Gatchafencer blade wielded by Ken turns out to be a double-edged sword.

Sentai Filmworks previously released the entire original Gatchaman television anime series, the Gatchaman II (Kagaku Ninja-Tai Gatchaman II) sequel series, the 1994-95 OVA series, and the recent Gatchaman Crowds and Gatchaman Crowds insight spinoff anime.
