I wasn't attacking the genre and the reader wasn't asking for shows like Maria-sama ga Miteru, she was asking about stuff like Level-C where it's explicit sex. Read the letter. She wasn't asking for love stories. |
Also, "winky"? "Baby batter"? Is there a rolleyes big enough?[/quote]
backatcha. Wanna know what I put "baby batter" in quotes, or why I used the term at all? Because it was a direct quote from the audio commentary on the films that was featured on Manga Video's R1 DVD release of them. Amanda Wynn Lee used it SPECIFICALLY in reference to that scene, hence, why I used it at all, as well as for humorous purposes (read: as an inside joke). As for "winky", I was tired, and I figured to hell with it, I was already using the "baby batter" quote, and besides, after seeing the "word that rhymes with witch" get automatically censored by the boards in another post (wow. Just imagine it if I was simply referring to a female dog. Why bother censoring that word on the boards when much worse things than the b-word are sometimes mentioned in reviews? I can understand wanting to be family-friendlier, but if you're going to let some reviewers review hentai titles or R-rated titles, it seems kind of on the silly side to censor the language on the boards like that, especially in relatively minor cases such as the b-word, which also obviously has a second and much more innocent meaning as well), I was concerned that the REAL word for the male anatomy or even the word for it's fluid might have a chance, however slight, of being blocked with one of those silly little "bad word" tags, which ALWAYS seem to make the original context sound much harsher than the original, and which would have undermined my argument as much or more than using a common, more-innocent, and meant to be taken somewhat humoursly slang term. Think about it. If you read it as "sure, we don't see his bad word"... would that REALLY be any better? (Although funnier, admittedly).
Also, my argument was "really, really, really, really, really dumb"? What are you, eleven? You have better snark skills than that! For goodness sake, you're an Answerman. If you're going to insult me, do at least live up the Answerman reputation whilst doing it.
I don't know which to be distantly offended over more - the fact that you called me dumb for misinterpreting your post based on what appears to actually be a difference in semantics (I and others I know use "hentai" to mean anything with sexually explicit content, referring to that content in specific as the "hentai part" or what have you; NOT just to mean "porn" which has a different connotation than that) and a case of sleep deprivation (on my part)... or the fact that you couldn't even be arsed to come up with an insult that someone outside of middle school could generally say without being embarassed. "Dumb" is as lame and weak an insult as "retarded" (though the latter sounds stupider, in part because it's usually inaccurate and ridiculously mean-spirited when it is accurate, they are equally lame/weak and usually used by people who don't have a large enough vocabulary to know better; again, I would have expected better snark abilities from an Answerman. You disappoint me).
I agree that I made a... *remembers boards censoring* slight... posterior, out of myself, due largely to being foolish enough to think that I could make a coherent post at 4 AM on two hours of sleep and a package of cookies, and that you most definitely have the right to insult or poke fun at me for it (hell, if somebody posted a ridiculously stupid and incoherent fanfiction, even if they had the excuse of sleep deprivation or being high or whatever, I would still probably post it to Godawful Fan Fiction's forums if it was bad enough to provide fun snark material). However, I feel cheated to not get a decently intelligent or snarky-sounding insult. Put some effort into it, man! You have a reputation to live up to, after all.

Okay, I just had to add my voice to the replies here to state that I would love to see both Samurai Pizza Cats and Botsmaster DVDs. I mean, who can resist getting a series with a guy by the name of Speedy Servicé or Ziv Zulander?

Formerly, it wsn't possible to use the word "flashback", because it fit in the "f*ck" outline...

You can say "dick". That has been demonstrated to the point of inanity in another thread.
FWIW, Zac, I agree with Andromeda. You should be able to come up with a better comeback than "really dumb". Why, if all else fails, there's always the old tried-and-true "You're a boogerface, and you stink!"

The hell?
What is this, the playground? The point is not that I had a "good comeback", the point is that I refuted her argument, which I did.

Wow. You "refuted" a sleep-deprived gal's incoherent ramblings that she based on a misinterpretation of about two sentences. Good for you. You win the internet! Seriously, you say "What is this, the playground?" Thing is, "really dumb" is in fact the kind of insult USED on the playground (which was my point). I find that kinda ironic...
And no, it wasn't the whole point of the post, but come on. If you ARE going to throw an insult (especially one that is paying particular attention to the poster's percieved level of intelligence, which by the way, isn't a very good way to "refute" most arguments, online or elsewhere), you really CAN do better than that. I've seen you be MUCH wittier than that. Noooooo! You're losing your touch! It's a tragedy I tells ya, a tragedy!
Anyway... I mean, jeez. You'd think the thing was comedy gold, what with making no sense, yet other than maybe one comment in the middle of it that pointed out I was essentially "equating gay porn with Schindler's List" (now THAT is Answerman-quality snark!), it was pretty weak. You pretty much had two options for replying to it (ignoring it wouldn't be a reply, hence why I say "two"): take it seriously and maturely while still calmly refuting it, perhaps with a sidedish of :? or :?: emoticons, therefore letting my sleep-deprived idiocy stand on its own, or snark the hell out of it and show some of the shining acidic wit that you're famous for (it made too little sense to take it as a serious and intelligent response that might warrant a cute referential joke of some sort and otherwise a serious reply, which is how you usually respond in the column, IIRC... at least to write-ins other than the Flake of the Week, of course). You ended up apparently attempting the latter, but did it somewhat half-arsededly, which is just plain disappointing.
By the way...

Nah... I don't like to use that one. Too crude, too nasty, too lowbrow. I also know someone named Dick, and he's not one, so... I choose not to use it. "Winky" was goofier anyway.

Hee! That was cute. I actually think of tiny little cupcakes when I hear it, which when you connect it with Evangelion is a pretty strange mental image... or at least it is when I connect it with Evangelion.

Looks like Howl's Moving Castle, to me. The character of Howl, even.

I'm not the biggest fan of the Answerman columns, but I do love seeing Howl's beautiful face each time I come to the site. Looking forward to the next Answerman and please add more kittens next time!
