Woo, Manga Guide time again!
Thanks for reviewing Dick Fight Island. This sort of over-the-top BL is something we don't see too often, plus it sounds like it has humorous moments as well? Definitely a bonus! My BL backlog is pretty packed, but I'd still like to read this sometime. On a completely different note, I enjoy classic manga from time to time, but unfortunately, Shotaro Ishinomori is one of my blind spots. Going by Rebecca's review, it sounds like Gorenger is entertaining enough to be worth picking up. Also, it's heartening to hear that Boys Run the Riot lives up to the hype. Looking up a little more about it now, it seems like it's complete at four volumes, which makes it an easy add to my wishlist. |

Looking at the titles Sublime Manga has been licensing recently, I get the feeling that it is now clearly stirring towards bringing mindless porn for women in a large quantity, similar to how almost all English manga publishing companies are also of course focussing on licensing basically all kinds of soft porn with varying degrees of borderline porn content. Maybe perverted stuff is the only thing that sells and sustains all these companies. It is also very unfortunate how the Japanese BL mangaka are also stepping down to lower and lower levels of ridiculousness with topic like that shown in Dick Fight Island manga. Unfortunate, that people of all age groups are exposed to a large amount mindless garbage.

I think ridiculousness is far preferable to boring mediocrity barely identifiable from other titles in the same genre, like RPG-style isekai. I don't really care if adult people are exposed to "mindless garbage", that's their choice to make, and if you compare the amount of porn for men on the internet the women-oriented smut is still lacking in quantity, besides it has often different approach to sexy stuff which is refreshing. |

I'm curious why Boys Run the Riot wasn't added to the encyclopedia like the other series.

I'd only buy Dungeon Toilet if it would explain how the three seashells work.

I've read vol 1 of Boys Run the Riot, it's very good! I'm a bit sad it'll only be 4 vols long though.
Now, reading this as a trans man who did not transition until well after high school, I went in without knowing the mangaka was also ftm, but I was like "this is a little too specifically on the nose, I highly suspect the mangaka is also ftm" and lo and behold, yes. But I also really appreciate that it's about something else, I feel like a lot of earlier trans manga were about being trans and literally nothing else, and this is about a trans boy working with a delinquent boy to make clothes without focusing every single moment on being trans. Because trans people don't focus 100% of their effort on that irl, which the mangaka obviously knew, but also put that into the manga very well. So, if you wanted a trans perspective on this, I love it and its representation. I also feel like most trans rep tends to be mtf, so getting more ftm is always good. |

Heh. I'd buy it for that reason, too. (That joke has to be one of the biggest trolls ever in movie history.) Still might check it out anyway if the history aspect is strong enough. On another matter, will the LN side see coverage of The Executioner and Her Way of Life? Just finished reading the first volume and am very interested in seeing a second opinion. |

I came to this discussion thread from the Spring 2021 Light Novel Guide article. Is there meant to be a separate thread for discussing the Light Novel Guide or is this the right one?

My opinion about the list so far, I've read some of those titles:
"I Think Our Son Is Gay" is simple but comfy read. "Call of the Night" seems really interesting so far, feels a bit like what people tell me FLCL is about (I must watch that sometime). Interesting that it's from creator of "Dagashi Kashi". "Hana-chan and the Shape of the World" seems interesting at least. "Girlfriend, Girlfriend" - I agree with the criticisms, "100 girlfriends" is better poly rom-com manga if you want one IMHO. "Boys Run the Riot" seems to have a lot of good recommendations everywhere.I wasn't interested in the plot as described, but it may be worth trying. "Back When You Called Us Devils" uses dumb logic straight from hentai several times, it's worthless brutal nonsense, feels like Rebecca wrote like "horror film [...] about terrible things teens do" that seems to be written for people who enjoy torture-porn with excuse of plot. "Takamine-san" has great art, but is best read if you pretend the first chapter doesn't exist plot-wise. |

Contrary to most posters/reviewer here, I greatly enjoy "Girlfriend, Girlfriend", it's one of the funnier recent romcom comedy mangas I've read, right up there with 'My Senpai Is Annoying", heck, I might even rate it higher. I've followed it ever since the scanlation of it started last year.
The original doujin version of this is licensed by Irodori Aqua, that one was only a single volume. I agree with andramus above, it's a bit confusing to have both articles lead here. |

Unfortunately not - it's a March release and we're covering April, May, and June. I think someone who isn't me has the review copy, though, so it should get coverage at some point. |

It's the LN guide meant to link to this same thread? I was initially confused as to why people were talking about titles that weren't in the article ^^;

Yeah, it looks like the Light Novel guide has been merged with the Manga guide, at least for comments.

The biggest problem with Thigh High is that, as far as I can tell from the cover, none of them are actually wearing thigh-highs. (Which seems to be because that part of the title was added for the localization, but still.)
I'd kinda written off Aoi Koshiba because of the writer, but might give it another look. The art does look nice, at least. "Devils" at first glance looks like a very serious award-bait type of thing, but apparently it's just the edgiest edge to ever edge an edge. But at least it's good to know I'm not the only person who uses the word "s***bag." |

The name for the mangaka for Back When You Called Us Devils is linking to the wrong Takashi Sano(佐野隆). The right mangaka for that is Takashi Sano(さの隆).
