I don't approve of drug use in any way shape or form, nor do I use them, but um... I've never really found weed to be that terrible. It has similar cognitive effects to alcohol, it kills your lungs at a slower rate than cigarettes, and the only real reason it's illegal is because the tobacco industry felt threatened, plus black musicians used it at a time when racism was flaring high in our country. But hey, what do I know, I'm just a kid. -.-
On topic: I don't think this will be too damaging to his career, depending on how harsh Japan handles drug charges. He has a great wealth of talent, and I hope to see him back doing BGM work asap. |

Drugs are serious business in Japan. Here, it's like, "Weed? Is that all?"

Celebrity drug scandal is sensational in Japan. Just google for the whole Noriko Sakai media frenzy from a couple years ago.
"Wholesome image destroyed as drug trial for Japanese actress draws crowd of 6000" More than 6000 people crowded outside a Tokyo courthouse as Japanese actress Noriko Sakai pleaded guilty to drug use and prosecutors sought a prison sentence in a trial that has caused a media frenzy. Sakai, 38, was among the first Japanese actresses to gain popularity in Asia. Her arrest in August threatened to shatter her wholesome, girl-next-door image. The scandal has dominated headlines in Japan for months and authorities have said they will crack down on drug use in the entertainment industry. |

I am amused. I loved the movie, and this just makes me love it a little more. On the other hand, not the best society to get busted with drugs for, so I hope his life and career doesn't suffer from too much of a setback. |

But successful musicians do. We wouldn't have half the of good rock from the 60s and 70s unless they were all high off their asses on various substances.
At least they're not in execution-happy Singapore. |

Man didn't know that marijuana is illegal in Japan. I guess we're not the only one.

not exactly an expert on drug prices here (don't even know how much a pack of cigarettes is, let alone weed) but $110 for 1.5g of weed? surely even if it was good product thats expensive right?? and even worse he got caught, with what was essentially nothing he got caught. he may has well have been caught with one of these
shame too that this'll likely cost him alot of future work now |

The true criminals are the police that enforce bad laws and the people who help them do it.
I would suggest anyone who thinks cannabis is something that needs to have laws to watch this film: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfxaJQVxSA4 I'm against all drug laws but this one is one everyone should be against unless you think we should retry alcohol prohibition. |

LOL, I live in Malaysia (we also do the death penalty) and hang around in Singapore quite often, and I know that drugs can be obtained in Singapore. Not easily, and quite dangerously, but it's not a social taboo, just a legal one. I have the impression that in Japan, it's both a social and legal one. |

Whenever you see stories like this it's always funny to see which users on a site are also probably hitting the pipe given the statements made.
Someone broke the law, and now they're in trouble. Big deal. |

Probably less reliable than you think. I'm in favor of legalization and have never used nor wanted to use marijuana. I've known a number of others who are.
If we think the law is a bad one, it hardly seems unreasonable to comment. I think that it's as legitimate a subject as policies that have lead to arrests for possession of manga that is alleged to be child pornography or intellectual property laws that have led to arrests or websites being shut down. |
