Cats were also a phobia for spoiler[Tongpu in Cowboy Bebop,] fatally interfering with his work.

@Gyt Kaliba: an allergy isn't a phobia. Smile

I thought there was some trauma that caused Chiaki to be afraid of flying, and I thought he gets better.

In Episode 19:
Trauma: spoiler[Some events are shown in the OP. Chiaki's plane almost crashes, and an old man dies when he loses his medicine. Twelve-year-old Chiaki made a valiant effort to rescue the pills and save the man but fails. Ever since he has subconsciously felt responsible for the man's death.] Cure: spoiler[He's hypnotized by Nodame with an heirloom watch.] Reward: spoiler[She leaves a post-hypnotic suggestion with Chiaki to bring back crabs when he flies to Hokkaido!]

Splendid performance of Brahms First at the beginning of this episode, too.

I'm wondering where Guy Cecil (Tales of the Abyss)'s gynophobia is. Yes, it started as a game, but there is an anime, and yes, it is trauma-induced, but it is still a major inconvenience, especially as that includes your own party, half of which is female. Some of Guy's greatest character development is him pushing past his fear to help the female members of the party, like when Anise almost fell into a fissure, or when Tear tried to get to Luke at the Tower of Rem.

Doraemon turning from yellow to blue is probably the most memorable scene in anime. Ever.

And how exactly does Kei Agemaki's fear of spirits in Zakuro not make this list? Talk about fears that impact one's life! He is assigned to the Ministry of Spirit Affairs and is scared to death of spirits, including, to a certain extent, his partner, at least at first. Of course, it may be wise to be a bit frightened of Zakuro!
I know! I was expecting to see Kei's fear of spirits in Otome Yokai Zakuro in the #2 spot. Considering his job is working with spirits, that's a pretty dang inconvenient fear to have Anime hyper
I really liked this list though. Motoko's fear of turtles in Love Hina was one of the first that came to mind.

Tsunade from Naruto developed a fear of blood, which is a serious problem if you're a premier medical specialist.

She, uh, got over it, eventually.

Junta really had an allergy rather than a phobia as he was really trying to have a girl.

Anyway I like Ukyo, she's the prettiest of them all and she looks even better in an episode where spoiler[she wore a girl uniform]. I even listen to her character song Very Happy

Yusuke Godai

It's Yusaku, not Yusuke. Do I get a No-Prize for that?

I have to admit I was getting nervous that Ranma's nekophobia was absent as I got closer to the end of the list. Never would have guessed that a crippling fear of common household pets could rank so high. Glad to see I haven't completely lost touch with the pulse of anime fandom.

Also, no love for Kodachi? I mean I know she's not technically a fiancee, and she's a totally whacked out sadist, and I'd never vote for her in a million years... what was my point again?

Giga Slave: See Dragon Slave, but bigger and harder - 7.25%

Nice to know less than ten percent of this column's readers would want to learn a spell that could potentially result in the destruction of our entire universe if not cast exactly correctly. Personally, I voted for Ragna Blade: all the devastating awesomeness of a Giga Slave without the whole 'risk of destroying all creation' hiccup. Plus I'm a sucker for battle techniques involving a sword.

I agree with some of the other comments, the fact that each respective fear has several animes or games relating to it, but fear of men/women definitely should be on the list.

My favorite anime phobia belongs to Celty of Durarara!!

Despite being such a scary supernatural herself, she has a humorous, irrational fear of spoiler[space aliens and alien invasion.]

Voted for Ukyo, mostly due to the level-headed thing, though I didn't really hate any of them. (Despite the fact that the anime version of Akane did the character no favors -- particularly the movies.) OK, so Shampoo might be the "prettiest", but then, most girls in the Ranma verse tends to be so unless the comedy is centered around the point that a woman is meant to be unsightly. (Like the story centered around Konatsu -- or, to be more specific, his step family -- to name an example.)

Those who mention Cologne obviously haven't seen or read the part where we get to see what she looked like when she was young. Razz

Hmm, now that I think about it, you guys are right - Junta's problem is more of an allergic reaction than a phobia. Anime smile;;;

Fun list this week. I voted for Ukyou. She was the more level headed of the fiancee, and really friendly. I like Akane too, but she's not always level-headed, and her anger gets in the way of any friendliness. Shampoo, well, she can be downright catty when it comes to Ranma, no pun intended. So yeah, Ukyou was my favorite of the three, but I do believe Ranma should marry Akane. It's not entirely her fault she's always angry. With all these fiancees around, she's afraid she'll lose Ranma, whom she really cares for, she just doesn't want to admit it. Wink

Actually, it can do that even if it *is* cast correctly. That is why the spell is so dangerous.
