The Sega Racing game reminds me of something. Was Sonic R a particularly well-received Mario Kart rival back in its day?
Hopefully, the much-touted return of classic 2D gameplay to this franchise will help bring it back to strength.

Not meaning to be the anal, stickler about moral goodness and all that jazz, but I'm kinda surprised that The columnist for the X Button was allowed to use F*** in one of his hover text inserts for the Ace Detective game. You can't say it on TV, or Radio, so I was a little taken back that it's so nonchalant here.

No because spoiler[this game takes place about a month after the last case of AA3, before Phoenix got disbarred.]

Anyway, AAI is definitely on my list of games that I must have. Very Happy

Eh, the internet, nor a column, are part of the FCC's jurisdiction. Why would ANN need to avoid use of the word?

Sonic R got some pretty lousy reception back when it came out, both critically and by the ordinary regular people who played the game. It was mainly due to having beginner-unfriendly controls, a very glaring lack of courses (there were 5 total, though they were all sprawling spaghetti-like mazes), complete and total imbalance to the point where some characters were almost guaranteed wins or losses, and the centralization of collecting things over a race rather than directly racing with each other.

From what I can gather with Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing, this game has none of the problems Sonic R has. People are still wondering what Sonic needs a car for...though I guess I'll just offer up the guess that there are rules to the races that even Sonic has to follow.

Perhaps he could borrow Fred Flintstone's car.

In regards to the FFXIII faceplate thing, they probably aren't lying if they say they don't have it.

Both Gamestop and Amazon.com aren't getting any. And as far as I know, not many people are. Rumor has it Best Buy does, though.

Also, I found it funny that when I read this, your take on it was almost an exact copy of Kotaku's, including the second controller for a single player game joke. That made me laugh more than the joke (because, I had already read that joke in Kotaku, last week).

Wow, it took Cave long enough to announce that Espgaluda 2 would be region-free. Oh well, I still love 'em. Ordered my copy right when I read this.

Thanks for this awesome column. It keeps me up-to-date on all the Japanese goodness I might miss otherwise.

Last Rebellion was a huge flop in Japan, it seems.

The dialogue carries everything surprisingly well without any voice acting (which might ruin things for longtime fans at this point)...

But Phoenix Wright games have never had voice acting. I presume DS carts can't hold all that audio. The only time the characters were ever voiced was for a Japanese promo for the re-release of the first game on DS (which was the first version ever released in America).

Yeah, I don't know why Todd thinks longtime fans of the series would be put off by no voice acting outside of "Objection!", "Hold it!", "Take That!" and the like. People who've been playing the main series all along are already used to the dialogue, itself, not being voiced. Confused

Never a dull moment when auto-correct is around. Wink

That has to be the best typo I've ever let through. I almost want to leave it as is.

My apologies, I meant that voice acting might actually ruin things for fans, who, accustomed to the silence, have likely imagined voices for the various characters.
