I agree. It's always a good thing to ban drawings. I mean drawings always hurt people after all.

Just clicked your "my anime" button. lots of shows on there that would be affected by this bill.

Nice to see this happening. If we even look outside the anime scope, think about how many series this would have affected. Wouldn't shows like South Park be technically illegal under this bill?

My God, that was hilarious (also kind of painful, but whatever). They gave Strike Witches "Very Good," but they want this bill passed immediately? The hell?

Oh, I'm sure that if this bill is official, I'm sure it won't affect the industry whatsoever. Rolling Eyes

But seriously though, if the bill gets passed, the anime industry that we all know and love will be history and nothing (even the non-deserving shows will bite the dust for this) will be spared!

Comparing the sweet, innocent series like Hanamaru Kindergarten to disgusting garbage like Kodomo no Jikan is just insulting. Plus, if they are really serious in removing all of those sexual images involving those of questionable ages from anime, why not just get rid of that sexually provocative images from other sources like movies, TV shows music videos, and all other stuff that involves visual entertainment?

Oh, I forgot the one thing that I've been taught while growing up is that sex sells. Can we make the same numbers without adding sex appeal to our various forms of entertainment? I highly doubt it.

Think of it as a game. Troll? Oblivious? Just not paying any attention? You get to decide!

1) I was being sarcastic

2) How can you call Kodomo no Jikan "disgusting garbage" when defending the artists rights?

Right here in ANN the #1 rated anime is Clannad After Story, under this bill, Clannad AS would have NEVER happened. All the girls in Clannad would have been seen as "underage in physical features, and in speech", and since Clannad AS had sex involved, they would have taken it down.

I'd hardly say After Story "had sex involved". It mentioned that it happened, and both characters involved were 18 or older. (I'd say that Nagisa in after story's appearance matched her age, but I'm sure there's disagreement there since she's still a moe style character)

@ Drunk _ Samurai

Thanks for your comment, I thought you were serious on that one because it's sometimes hard for me to tell whether someone is being honest or sarcastic on the internet.

As for my other comment, yes, I call Kodomo no Jikan disgusting garbage because after viewing the series from my personal perspective, it is garbage of questionable content but that is just in my own honest opinion and opinions can be subjective. I haven't read the manga but is it true that it is less creepy and less sexually provocative than the anime series? Let me know on that one.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind nudity in anime when it fits into the context or part of the story's atmosphere like Elfen Lied or if it's just harmless and not worth getting angry about. (The Sailor Moon transformation sequences for me comes to mind and I also remember that Goku went full frontal nude in some instances but I don't think I've heard anything wrong from there.)

Remember that just because I am against censorship, it doesn't mean I let shows with questionable content slide though just because I am against censorship. As for the reason why I dislike KnJ? Tim Jones from T.H.E.M. Anime reviews really described my view of that series perfectly. So we'll just leave it at that.

If I contradicted myself, I apologize and like you, I am also against this bill and from what we know so far, I don't think the people within the industry will ever support this bill. [/quote]

Bwahaha. You're funny. Hanamaru Kindergarten is pandering to the same crowd as Kodomo no Jikan you know. They're just not as sexual about it, since animated potatoes like the girls in HK wouldn't be as attractive I guess.

OK sorry,it's just that sarcasm is bit hard to pull off in text and there a few who support the bill.

That doesn't make sense. If you were against censorship then you wouldn't want anything to be censored.

Erm Nagisa was never underage at any point (she's been held back remember), by that scene she would be at least 20, Tomoya at least 19. It's the fact they're in highschool rather than physical apearence that would put 2 of the girls as underage (Tomoyo, Yukine), Mai and Fuko I accept are loli, but nothing happens with either of them.

Clannad, Planetarian, and maybe Tomoyo After (it's set after she graduates) would be Key's only works not affected though. All the others have 18+ versions (except Little Busters, but that has panty shots). This would still hurt them, but not as badly as most (they have all ages versions of everything).

It makes me really sad that people pass off KnJ as "disgusting garbage" and just assume that it's nothing more than a pedophile's wet dream. Yes, I'll admit, it has some very risque loli fanservice, but it also deals with a subject that is so often ignored - the awkward growth and sexual maturation of females from age 9-12(or so) ... young people don't just suddenly and magically become sexual beings at age 18. There is a growth and development process that can be awkard and difficult. And young girls start earlier than boys. It is 100% realistic that girls might start being interested in their own sexuality around age 9-11 ... they may not understand everything, but they will be curious and want to explore(I'm not saying they should have sexual relationships, but topics like sexual attraction, masturbation, pornography, sexting, and menstruation are all relevant to girls that age).

As a 25 year old female who remembers that awkward age of "sexual awakening" if you will, I really appreciate how KnJ deals with that bridge from childhood to adulthood where you are curious, but confused. She deals with the issues of embarrassment and shame, as well.

The story also deals with children in that awkward phase acting out by spouting things they don't fully understand - especially children who come from backgrounds of either trauma or neglect.

The story is cheapened a bit by loli-fan-pandering, but honestly, if all you're getting out of it is jollies off of pre-pubescent girls (or revultion at others doing so), then you're missing the bulk of the story. The mangaka is female, btw, and you can tell that she truly understands the feelings of young girls in that stage of life.

Edited to add: A lot of the story line also has to do with the adults (mostly teachers) in the story and their relationships with each other.

There is no way I will support this bill. This would kill the anime industry and creativity would sink deep in a black hole chained by restriction that society in 2010 doesn't need. It's fictional, story content and nothing to be concerned about when it comes to it. USA doesn't dictates the law worldwide so on that one americans can get lost for all I care.

Are you shy that much that you can't see someone naked without thinking sexually perverted thoughts, prude and pure eyes must never get used to it, eh? /sarcasm

Man I'm glad I live in a decent country who does not make me put up with this kind of bad stuff.

Japan has the most freedom about those endeavors and art is in need of complete freedom. You don't create something splendid staying bound there.
