Just wish there was more variety out there. Not a knock on Funko stuff, but more companies taking on stuff with cheap-like prices that are everywhere would be nice.

I feel really conflicted about Funko pop figures as a thing. As someone susceptible to collecting things, I love that they have figures for so many franchises that I love. I love the idea that people can sort of show their own inner brand of nerd by collecting specific ones. But I also understand the argument this comic makes about it being a lazy attempt at merchandise, and making the moment you find something you really like less special. In the end, Funko pop figures are really ugly and creepy, so I have no problem not buying them

They look like an unholy 3-way cross between your favorite franchise, Hello Kitty and Betty Boop. Still, the Wolverine one is kinda cute... >.>

This reminds me of the day my cousin stopped playing with action figures with me: that day changed my entire outlook on action figures. For a while, still as a kid I couldn't fathom how anyone could play with action figures ever again.
I bought some more, even into adulthood. My crown jewel is a Baxter Stockman Playmates figure still in its box I found in Mandarake in Shibuya. It doesn't cost much but I'd wanted one for a long time. Also, "...Like nerds will buy anything if you stamp the right brand on it." Doesn't stop with nerds. Exhibit A: President of the United States Donald Trump. |
