Certain knowledgeable people have been hinting that this is a very deliberate move by KyoAni. They are probably looking to shift toward making more movies and fewer TV shows going forward. I'm totally cool with that, but the licensing complications of films, especially related to KyoAni content, makes that a little bit less desirable than it would otherwise be. I really do hope to see more stand alone KyoAni movies in the future though. They have the talent to put out fantastic stuff. Stuff that is definitely right down my alley. |

^It wasn't long ago that there were issues with licensing their TV shows for streaming. I mean Chu2koi's first season wasn't legally streamed until Ren aired IIRC, Amagi Brillant Park wasn't streamed until months after it aired, and Hyouka was only recently licensed and only for home video AFAIK. Luckily their content has been very consistently picked up since then, presumably after whoever in the production committee was mucking things up pulled their head out of their ass. Hopefully that will happen for their movies as well, but I don't know that that will be soon. I'll buy tickets or even buy it on iTunes (US preferably). Shut up and take my money!

Yeah, that's true. The movies things is more industry wide, rather than just KyoAni. Their content, regardless of format, has historically been a bit of a pain to get over here just in general. At least for that period of time you mentioned. All of those movies, Hyouka, and Amagi and whatnot finally getting licensed is a good sign though. A Silent Voice.... well, that's not so much...

Season one was simulcasted in The Anime Network, but I doubt many watched it through that service. animenewsnetwork.com/press-release/2012-10-16/chunibyo-demo-koi-ga-shitai-coming-to-anime-network-online-this-week |

The point is that KyoAni always lets someone else handle the licensing and distribution of their shows outside of Japan. They are too focused on their home market and never really showed any interest for the international scene.
