It is already being released. I think they are up to volume 5 so far. |
Isn't that Clear Card? The original CCS manga consists of two arcs: Clow Card and Sakura Card. |
The first series (Clow and Sakura arcs) was re-released in Japan in nine volumes. That's what we're probably getting over here. |
Sakurazuka_Reika seemed to have confused the Sakura Card arc in the original series with the Clear Card series that Kodansha Comics is currently publishing. Pointing that out was the intent of my earlier post; sorry if that wasn't clear (no pun intended) ^^;
As for these hardcovers probably being based on the Japanese special editions, that was my guess as well upon seeing the volume count. I'm not the biggest fan of the new art on those covers (while they're a bit more refined than the old illustrations, at the same time, that sort of makes them a mismatch), but I'm sure Kodansha will do a great job overall.

I guess that is why they are including perks such as cards with them and the promise of something special to whoever collects them all. Really interested to see how such a perk would work out for anyone buying them from bookshops one at a time. |
From what I've seen of the Japanese editions I think the "special perk" is that art cards act as puzzle pieces. If you collect all of them they make up a full image. There seems to be one card per book.
Not 100% sure on any of this though.

I wondered if it could be something along those lines. Anything else doesn't make much sense to me - no way am I getting any perks after ordering those books one by one from European Amazon. So either that, or a nice image on the spine, though those seemed to have gone out of style.
I think I may upgrade. CCS is really special to me, my copies are somewhat old, and the version I own is a bad translation from Japanese -> Frensh -> German. Our Sakura likes physics instead of physical education ... yeah.

Ha! Ha! Ha! Wow! Who ever did the translation got that fact wrong about her.

Yeah ... and one sentence later, she says she hates math, and even 14 year old me was suspicious about that, because that doesn't add up [I'll see myself out].
