I wrote a Haruhi Suzumiya/Bleach many years ago where and OC makes a joke wish about One Piece ending in the Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody Chapter and even mentions that Oda mentioned that he was going to end the series in five years...

I wrote that chapter back in 2010...

So yeah... he's been saying that for a long time...

as long as it wraps up in his own terms. I don't really care how long it takes. it's been running so long that he just has to get it just right.

He has been saying he wants to end the thing in 5 years for quite some time. here is one recent example from 2019

animenewsnetwork.com/news/2019-09-03/one-piece-manga-creator-eiichiro-oda-i-want-to-end-story-in-5-years/.150684

He's a mangaka being pressured to answer this question whenever he gets on television. No mangaka legitimately knows when their series will end. Maybe they have plans to end it, but said plans are always subject to change. 5 years just seems like a reasonable answer so that people can quit bothering him. Fact is, it could end a year from now if he really wanted. He doesn't have to even finish the thing. He could just stop making it. It's his art.

Ending in 4 to 5 years? Ha ha! Nope not happening! Sorry Oda, but you still have so much to cover and it took you nearly a year to cover the entire flashback with Oden. There's no way it can end in 4 to 5 years without Oda foregoing plot points and events he's alluded to or built up. We haven't even seen Admiral Greenbull or Dr. Vegapunk unveiled without being obscured yet. For now on, anytime I see this said I'm taking it with a grain of salt. He's gone this far into it, he might as well wrap it up as perfectly as possible and make it his life's work and legacy.

I'll believe it when I see it. It jumped the shark a long time ago.

We've heard that one before. However, the series definitely appears to be heading toward the end-game. I'm just not sure that with the pacing of his arcs he could properly wrap everything up in that amount of time.

I’ve made the joke he doesn’t want Netflix to do to him what HBO did to George RR Martin, but that’s fairly presumptuous his series will ever enter production at the rate things are going.

Well I believe Oda stated that he wanted to travel the world and spend more time with his family once he turned 50, so 4-5 years would put him at 50 years old. So he probably wants to try and get the series finished before then, so makes sense why he wants to get it down in 4-5 years. Plus he's been working on One Piece now for over half his life, and it ended up being longer than he originally first intended due to him adding more and more ideas.

He definitely wants to end it in 4-5 years, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he will. I'm fine if he does, so long as he can tie everything up in a satisfying conclusion, but he has been making estimates like these before and we usually hear them again a few years later that he wants to end it in another 4-5 years.

Uhh no, Wano is one of the best arcs in the whole series and previous arcs weren't that bad either. This narrative that OP became bad post timeskip needs to stop.
