Is it just me, or did Cera's voice change, at some point? I haven't seen him in anything since Molly's Game (2017), but I'm pretty sure he sounded like his borderline puberty self in that, which is what I've always thought he sounded like since Superbad (2008).

THIS!

Wanna hear Michael Cera sound like a total maniac? Then look up his Twin Peaks S3 cameo. He played a James Dean larper doing a Marlon Brando impression.

His voice still sounds "young" in recent years and is easily recognizable but he is doing a character here. If I didn´t know that was him then I wouldn´t never have guessed but this voice also fits comic Scott. Good. Comic and movie Scott are different people. Not a Cera-esque character.

PS: The show´s director Abel Góngora is mostly a Science SARU employee. Certainly a co-production but not just outsourced to Japan for the animation. Its president is also the producer. But don´t tell the weebs that the studio has been run by a Korean woman since 2021.

I was amused that Ramona has moved from Amazon delivery to Netflix DVD delivery in the clip.

Because it's airing on Netflix. GET IT EVERYONE? HAHA.

I also assume because Prime is a rival streaming service so they don't want to give them any attention at all.

The most varied performance of his I've personally seen was Youth in Revolt (2009), where his character created a Tyler Durden-esque alter-ego who wore sunglasses, always had a toothpick in his mouth, and had a creepy porn-stache. I think he still spoke with his normal voice, but just a little lower and with d-bag attitude. But that's all it took to make him seem like a completely different person.

I don't dislike this new anime Scott voice, I was just surprised. Like you, if I didn't know it was him, I would've also thought that was someone else doing the voice because of the strike, or something.

Well, probably would be money and wirk to license Amazon, so Netflix will just leverage their stuff. Looks alright.

What the hell is a “Netflix delivery person!?” Isn’t that just a regular postal worker? Does this take place in a world where Netflix became a dystopian ubiquitous corporate mail service bigger then most governments like our real life Amazon?

This takes place in Toronto, Canada in the early 2000's.

May as well be the zeppelinverse from Fringe.

I'm a bit confused what you mean. Did Netflix have their own delivery people or not in Canada? I'm in America, but I always assumed back when they sent out DVDs it was sent through the regular postal service and not a special curior. I remember I just shoved them back in the mail box to return them.

Netflix did not have their own delivery people. It was, indeed, delivered by post office employees (in the U.S., at least; though I'm sure Canada has their own post office system).

The joke is that, in the original story, Ramona is an Amazon delivery person, but the anime changed it from Amazon to Netflix as a kind of meta reference. The story taking place in the 2000s is a reference to the change from how NF used to ship discs (like, exclusively), which, now, feels obsolete (and actually just ended), because despite the disc rentals, everybody eventually associated them with streaming.

The "Zeppelin-verse from Fringe" is a reference to the TV show Fringe (2008) where, at one point in the show, travel to a parallel universe is discovered, and in that universe, it's an alternate Earth with a totalitarian government whose sky is full of Zeppelins. I think the mentioning of that is just to poke fun that Scott Pilgrim is like an alternate universe in itself.

Did Hiro Shimono dub Michael Cera in the Versus the World movie? I don't know if in other languages the characters are dubbed by the same actors who worked in the dub, but in the Latin American Spanish dub they did that, it's pretty great hearing Moisés Iván Mora as Scott again, he did a great job in the live-action movie dub, but here he sounds even more natural in my opinion.

Nope, in the dub of the live-action film, Takahiro Mizushima dubbed Scott Pilgrim.
