I was gonna say, there used to be a bunch of tournament movies, and they mostly worked fine (and the ones that didn’t wasn’t because of a tournament).

Pretty sure that had this began production AFTER the live action One Piece had come out it would have had way more budget and possibly more episodes

This is a Japanese production by a different studio than who worked on the live action One Piece. Even with it as rushed as it is there's no way they could have finished production on a show like this within the span of a month and a half.

I will admit the first two episodes were great... but that's it.
There are some great Japanese live action, such as Nodame Cantabile!, Liar Game, Rurouni Kenshin, Nana, and heck.. even Gokusen (

I'd add to that list "Always: Sunset on Third Avenue," "Umimachi Diary," and the recently-concluded "Kimi ni Todoke" drama. Generally speaking, the lower the requirements for cartoony effects, costumes, and hairstyles, the likelier they are to pull off a good live action version.
