So it looks like it's going to be just plain Dragonball and not Z, huh? That means no Vegeta, Nappa, Gohan, or Super Saiyans... Confused

I'm not optimistic about this movie at all; I'm a big Dragonball Z fan, but some things are best left to animation. I don't see how they CAN'T screw this up. However, I will hold out hope that this will at least not be a major embarrassment.

I'm kinda disappointed that people are taking this so seriously before it's even been filmed. You can't expect Dragonball to easily translate into the live action film medium.

After LOTR and X-men, I sure can expect it to work. Whether they choose to make it work is another story.

king: Transformers was lame. Even a fanfic writer could direct the movie better than Bay.

Jadress: Yeah, I was gonna make that same point. But they're worried white people won't watch it, because CTHD "bombed" and all... Rolling Eyes

Where have you all been?

All these concerns (& "jokes") have been voiced on the other threads about filming in Canada & then Mexico & who's starring.
A 90-120 minute movie doesn't have time for 10 minute charge-ups. I bet Steven Chow knows better than to lose his audience like that (Just watch Kung Fu Hustle) & the same for Wong.

Forget all your preconceived ideas about DB/Z & look at the product by the director & producer which will offer a better idea of what the finished product will be like.

Putting the doubts aside, I think we're all going to be in for a surprise on Aug 15. I have hope for this film. I'm just worried about the musical composer... hmmmm; Hans Zimmer anyone?

My daughter loves Hans Zimmer. We listened to PotC soundtracks for pretty much all of October in my truck
Although her latest obsession is Digital Devil Summoner which I keep taking out of the truck stereo & she keeps putting back in for the last couple months (alternating with PotC)

didn't they mention something about a live-action "Samurai Girl"

anyways it maybe good because Transformers this year was good

but i really have a bad feeling about this, lets just hope they don't screw it up

yeah, because Hollywood has a great history of adaptations of video games like DOA, and Mario Brothers, surely they can do a good job on an anime films like DB.

DOA wasn't a great film, but it was entertaining. Aren't movies supposed to... ya'know... entertain?

And from my perspective, this is going to be a fun movie. The only way they can really mess it up is if they try to make it all serious and shit.

Hey, I have those Samurai Girl books. I don't think it's exactly ABCFamily material though. Maybe a tad too violent.

Excellent point; if the director/studio wants to make it work, it will. LOTR and the Xmen were done extremely well, and didn't look retarded at all. The question is the level of commitment of the directing staff. If they just want to cash in on the Dragonball name, it will be a freaking joke.

Longer it is better than Dragon Ball: The Magic Begins, then I don't care. I sawn worse so there is possibly no way how Hollywood could mess it up worse. If you never watched Dragon Ball: The Magic Begins, then take a look and you'll see what I mean.

Reality actors? Is this the best they could do with the supposed $100 million budget?

Agreed. But considering they were originally going to cast a porno actress in the role, I guess it's a step up. Or maybe not. Confused

So how come nobody's been complaining that the Speed Racer movie will suck, yet everybody seems to think the DB/Z one will? Rolling Eyes Of course, granted the fact that we just barely have actually SEEN some teasers to what the Speed Racer movie will be like. But Just because of that, I'd say we really shouldn't make judgements on it until we've actually SEEN something from it, you know, like a trailer or some screenshots or something. And based on some of the names associated (save maybe this Real World actress, although I haven't seen nearly enough of her to determine yet), especially Stephen Chow (a HUGE Dragonball fan from what I've heard) in charge of things, with not a half bad director in James Wong right below him, I'd say I'm really optimistic they really do want to make this good, and not just cash in on it.

But I guess we'll just have to wait and see, huh? Wink

My way of seeing things has been "It doesn't suck till I think it sucks" and Transformers definetly didn't fall under that category. And it never will. Take Doom the movie for example. I was excited about but then when I went to go see it, I really didn't like it. Dragonball I'll be having hope for until I see it. Hopefully it can live up to the name.

it was lame that up to you maybe you mean the storyline but the transformers ( i mean the cars and the planes) were good and the way they transformed was good that what i meant

and about DBZ i mean that i hope they dont screw up the characters and make them different from the Anime

anyways i think the movie will succeed because all of DBZ fans will watch it and all anime fans will also watch it

Very nice how people are so damned prejudiced. You just hear Hollywood and you automatically condemn it.

Steve Chow is a producer. That gives me hope. Plus they're interestingly starting at the end of Dragon Ball.

While I dislike reality TV, I guess people have to start somewhere. Plus Real World is one of the better ones and one of the first. Not that it says much.

I'm not saying this movie is definitely going to be good, but to condemn it this early in production is just ignorant and close minded.

Though I will say that Transformers was lame. The designs were awful and too detailed. The cinematography and choreography was an ADD mess. They had an idiot like Michael Bay who openly insulted the cartoon and fans. Bay was only in it for his film, with little to no consideration of what came before. Thankfully we have an actual fan behind the Dragon Ball movie here.
