And that is the problem. If he was reluctant in doing 50 episode, he should have built the story differently. You may have the best of ideas, but the worst of executions kills it. Ultimately, yes it's confusing. I mean, don't get me wrong. I understand the fact that Venus Globe people want to take over what they believe belongs to them (a Reconquista, just like when Iberian Kingdoms fought against the invading Muslim Empire). I understand there's a ban on old war technology, and a religion based around, among other things, a Space Elevator. However, these and a couple of other things are the only things explained. Knt Also, on the topic of Kuntala, it's easier to use cloning, genetic engineering and other tech on artificial meat/ creating cloned stock, than raising Human Beings. |

1 - Oh I thought about what happened on the battlefield alright. I know what was his intention, and I appreciate it. I know what the message was, and I appreciiate it... I still entered rage-mode after the last episode. 2 - I am into futurology and topics like nanotech, cloning and genetic engineering fascinate me. Let me tell you something: Artificial Beef, Pork or Chicken is more practical and more easily accecible via this technology than raising humans for eating. This is a major plothole. |

Pardon me for just liking the music, but having heard the following live, they are great songs:
Hiroko Moriguchi - Mizu no Hoshi e Ai wo Komete / Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam OP and Eternal Wind -Hohoemi wa Hikaru Kaze no Naka- / Mobile Suit Gundam F91 ED, Yuuka Nanri - Akatsuki no Kuruma / Gundam Seed IN, Chiaki Ishikawa - Anna ni Issho Datta no Ni / Mobile Suit Gundam Seed ED and Mou Nani mo Kowakunai, Kowaku wa Nai / Mobile Suit Gundam 00 ED, and Lisa Komine - Tears / Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY Special Edition II - Respective Swords ED. The newer Gundam series starting primarily with Seed had great JPop music to cover whatever action was going on onscreen. When the plotlines start getting messy or convoluted, Seed always broke out the great music to help the viewer get through the slog. Seed was a Macross like interpretation of Gundam. Female main character who uses music to influence conflict. |

My experience thus far...
Mobile Suit Gundam: A great show, though it does meander a little bit toward the middle. It's great at showing the tragedies of war without coming across as being too politically boring or full of mech fights (though at times, it is like that). It has an okay English Dub for its time too, especially Brad Swaile's Amuro, simply because he is Brad Swaile. Char is perhaps the best rival character in anime history too. Zeta: Good, not great. I felt Kamille starts off as being... too whiny, but at the same time I sympathized with him. Four's subplot became too much of a sit for me, especially with her completely unbelievable romance with Kamille. It's especially annoying when they cut and paste her exact story onto another character near the end. Still, this show is better at some things than the original was. The English Dub by Blue Water Studios is, as usual from them, weak. Stick with the sub. Also, I felt that the ending where spoiler[Kamille gets brain damaged] was too much of an angst ridden, sad ending for the sake of sadness plot twist so that ZZ could happen. I think this is essential viewing for a Gundam fan since a lot of what it does and says is very interesting and well done, beautiful in spite of its flaws, unlike... ZZ: I hate Judau. He's my least favorite protagonist thus far, but at the same time, the show could have been salvageable if it was half the length and focused entirely on what the second half excelled at. Haman was an interesting villain before the creators decided to make her the Catwoman to Judau's Batman. The comedy isn't funny, the protagonist is a tool, the show is unwatchable until the halfway point, it has almost no bearing on anything before or after it unless you count Haman's minimal involvement in Zeta as needing a followup, then you have this awful thing. I know there are some fans who like this, but I'd say that it's definitely not required to understand the next installment... Char's Counterattack: I totally agree that if you're not invested in Char and Amuro's rivalry, this movie is pointless. I, however, was completely engrossed by it. My main problem with this movie is that Char was a good guy in Zeta, and it doesn't really show us what happened since then to cause him to act like this. Maybe it was Kamille's... thing at the end that made him lose faith or maybe it was just a pride thing. Either way, I did love this movie. Char and Amuro are both great characters, so I fail to see why one wouldn't be somewhat invested in their rivalry. Of course, there's not much else going for it. Great conclusion to two of the most iconic characters in Gundam and anime history. I'd wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone interested in Gundam after watching the original MSG, and maybe Zeta. G Gundam: A fun watch so far, despite the fact that it sounds like the English Dub actors (Blue Water Studio yet again, sigh) have no idea what they're doing. It's especially hard to listen to after hearing Domon's voice in the English release of the Gundam video games. Someone get that guy to redub Domon's lines! Gundam 0080: Outstanding work of realism in the world of the Universal Century. My only issue is that the music in the climax is completely unfitting. I don't care if the point was to show that Gundam shows aren't there to glorify war (as an adult watching this, I knew that already), there's no reason to put a Happy Happy Joy Joy song in when a certain character is fighting and dying. I loved how the relationship between our two leads developed and how this OVA did a great job at humanizing the Zeon soldiers. Both sides have young men getting mixed up in these wars, and some stories don't end happily because of the naivete that these youngsters hold. Gundam 00: Season one, the only part that I finished, was a great watch. Lets see if season two delivers... And that's my entire Gundam viewing experience. Yeah... |

If you like how revenge wrecks a person's brain, then maybe you'll like S2. Also, an evil Furuya Toru. Also, watch the Trailblazer only for the combat porn. |

If it's done well, I like it. If the message is "Don't let revenge overtake you" then that's one thing, but if the message is "If you pursue revenge, you'll definitely become evil" then that's always annoyed me. Roberta's Blood Trail (Black Lagoon) seemed to lean more toward the former, while FMAB's dilemma with Roy against Envy seemed more focused on saying that all revenge turns you into some sort of monster than anything else. I've already heard some... stuff about Louise in 00's second season, but hey, if Nena dies, I'm all for it. PS: Am I the only person who's a little sad that Ocean Group stopped dubbing Gundam?I think they're out of work. |

That revenge "stooping to their level" thing pisses me off across all media. It's like "no, protagonist, you killing the antagonist still leaves you the better person and well above their level." It's just cliched bad writing.

So I won't lie, I completely blew off this article at first. Gundam Wing and G Gundam have been my favorites for YEARS. Even after re-watching them recently I still love them. So I was very disheartened to read the Author's harsh opinions (Important word here) and to say people shouldn't watch them. But, after reading through the forum posts, I noticed that I seemed to be a black sheep in my taste as most people also agreed about Wing and G being bad. I still attain they are great, but that's not the topic here.
So I went back and re-read the article and took some recommendations. It's definitely important to remember that this is an opinion piece, which can be lost when you're saying "this isn't worth watching." But, it's all opinion and I can say mine are definitely different than the authors . But that's fine. In the end, I'm going back and just watching them all in release order and I'm very happy with that decision so far. Good opinion piece and I hope you don't get too much flack for it. I don't know if I can say, "Watch this to get into Gundam," because the variety is so vast. But, if I could say anything, just pick one and watch. That's kind of how anime works anyway lol. It's important to know backstory, but you can always go back and get context. Either way, just have fun with it! |
