Negima? High quality writing? ROFLMAO. I give Loveless some of that but no, just no. .

Ken Akamatsu has talent. Like Rumiko Takahashi. InuYasha isn't deep, meaningful, change the world stuff, but the author has been doing what she does long enough, she knows how to craft a quality tale. Akamatsu has been arouing awhile, learned his skills, and can write a story with a certain skill. It may not be deep, meaningful stuff, but it has talent.
Bill Cosby vs [insert comedian just starting out]
One has the skill to present risque material in a way to squeek under the radar. Acceptable family fare.
The other is still trying to make a name, so still might possess the "anythnig to be noticed" attitude.
Example.
Another Takahashi made it pretty big with a title called YuGiOh. Talent Luck? He said it took TEN YEARS for him to get printed. TEN YEARS he was writing stuff tht apparently no one thought was worth printing. Does his selling YuGiOh mean the other titles were good & the editors who turned them doen were wrong? Or were they crap that never should see the light of day?

There are hentai takes on Star Wars, Dragonball, Sailor Moon. Same basic elements, only aimed at the porn market. Does that make them as valuable & worthy as the originals? A por version of Romeo & Juliet is jusrt as valid as the original, particualrly considering they probably have to cut somethjing to include the sex?
NO, I'M NOT SAYING NYMPHET IS PORN
Let's teach it in kindergarten, ok? Happy?
My point is similar ISN'T the same.
Groucho Marx (you do know Groucho?) was dirty, but his jokes were couched in a manner that polite (like Margaret Dumont represented) society could "Oh, my!" but not have a coronary.
Do you understand the concept of a swear word used to make a point by a comedian vs a comedian using a swear word every other sentence to be "hip & cool"--the sad idea adding swear words makes something adult.? Some comedians (& children) seem to thing swear words in themselves are funny.

SO

Ken Akamatsu, like Rumiko Takahashi, knows his stuff..
If you cannot grasp the concept that 2 people can perform the same scene in a movie & it will be radically different due to their abilities, I'm wasting my time. And I really think you can't see that.

If Nymphet were such quality writing as you are presenting it to be, we wouldn''t be having this debate. THe Seven Seas people would be willing to stand by it because they aren't spineless. They're bringing over yuri. Bravo. Maybe then all the guys screaming about our yaoi can read their yuri & we can stay over here & read our yaoi without them screaming about it.

Oh yeah.
You are.

And you never read KoJika to judge it, so your opinion is flawed. Zac, read it, although he was too distracted on the wrong points of it IMO. I already told you that I don't care for it really so no, it's not my fave title (Otomen is actually my fave title of the moment, thank you very much). But I did post in my previous posts that I care for the truth coming out about this title because there's a lot of misinformation going on due to a lack of people actually readiing it."

As the Priest boys said once--people who don't understand Judas Priest are informing people who will never listen to Judas Priest that the band worships the devil.
Life sucks, doesn't it?

I DON'T HAVE TO READ THE STUPID TITLE
ok?
UNDERSTAND
I'm not saying it's porn. I'm not saying it's wrong.
I'm saying I'm backing the Seven Seas people's decision & why on earth are you playing the "It's not as bad as this"
I talk to people like you every day.
People who "I might do meth, but I don't rape kids"
"I just smoke pot, but I don't steal"
Qualify. Qualify. Qualify, Qualify.
"Negima & Loveless are just as bad as Nymphet, but they're being published! Boo hoo!"
Why didn't you drag the Bible into this?
There's rape, murder, sin, corruption.
Now you can justify EVERYTHING being published, can't you?
Where else can you find a woman sleeping with the enemy leader so she can nail his head to the ground to defeat their forces?
A virgin sacrificed to the Christian/Jewish god as a burnt offering?
That's far worse than Nymphet also.

Of course the Bible is considered a book of wisdom to teach people how to behave.

Can you see the difference yet?

A story about a 9-10 yr old teacher trying to becomme a magician with fan service provided by 14 going on 15 yr old girls. Couple jokes about the boy inserted,
A story about a very troubled 8 yr old who seriously needs help acting in a manner that, were she older would get her labled fast or trouble.

Maybe a majority of the fan service is being provided by children close twice the age of the girl in Nymphet.

Can you understand how wrong it is for a child of 8, that should be more focused on playing with dolls, not sexually harassing her teacher?

Like maybe an author with more skill could tell a similar tale with a child of 12/onset of puberty/sexual awakening/anage more people would be willing to see such behavior & accept the teacher trying to fix it? Is there any good reason on the planet for Rin to be 8?

And you KEEP putting things in my mouth that I never said. You keep harping that the teacher had the authority as an adult and blah, blah, but never called Soubi on it. Soubi is a 20 year old, a legal adult in Japan. .[/quote]

Again, you fail to grasp the concept-can't see the forest for the trees

As someone who works in a position with the government where we are held to the higher standard I know Aoki-sensei is held to, where over half the people screened fail to pass the background check, maybe I DO KNOW that Aoki-sensei would have to be reminded regularly of his responsibility tol his clients/students.
Soubi, though an adult, is JUST a citizen, & one messed up dude as I've pointed out.
Not in a position of trust
Not in a position of authority
Neighborhood perv position, maybe.
Kind of guy one sees arrested on the 6:00 news.
Kind of guy parents see on the news & say "Remember Junior, don't talk to strangers. Never let them touch you in your swimsuit area"
"Hey kid, want some candy" position
Not the kind of guy who, had he done his job & protected the kid, reporting anything suspicious, wouldn't have to wonder if he had the kid wouldn't be found dead later
Aoki-sensei has that higher standard to adhere to,
Soubi-pervert doesn't
UNDERSTAND?

Aoki-Sensei, being in a position of trust & authority, has the responsibility to protect his charges just as I have a repsonsibility to protect the public & have any of my clients locked up if I believe they pose a threat to society.
UNDERSTAND?

And don't give that "Oh, I read so many manga, I don't have the time to sit down to read!" BS either. I'm reading TWICE the manga as you (with a full-time job and other responaibilites AND playing Final Fantasy 12 on top of that, imagine that!) and managed to read KoJika to see what was the hoopla about, because, you know, to be in a debate, you actually need to somewhat KNOW about the subject first not by faulty hearsay or that BS excuse from the SSE Prez on what was the scene that broke the camel's back.

Oh god.
Who's not paying attention?
Have I not said MY JOB sends me to Ethics & Sexual Harassment training every other year?
Does that not suggest I, also, work full time?
Did I not say I'm a parent & I found my husband dead 6 yrs ago meaning I'm a single parent?
I'd love to have the time to play video games around single parent ferrying my teen places she needs to go, ferrying my elderly parents I also care for around putting in 5-10 hours unpaid overtime my job requires because there's always too much work & not enough bodies to do it, but if one doesn't get the work done, one gets a poor review, right?

I simply mean I'm reading more than enough titles to waster my time searching the net looking for fan translations of manga when I know full well Japanese is a bear of a language that professional translators paid by the American companies that license this stuff say they're tweaking the scripts up to the deadline to turn it in & they're still not happy. I'm not stupid enough to believe a fan translation on the net is more accurate than the official one provided by the licensees for purchase. I played that fansub thing for InuYasha for a month several years ago & the translations were rough, to say the least. I'm happy to wait to buy the grphic novel.
And if one title falls by the wayside, GOD KNOWS there are hundreds ot others waiting to come over.
Losing Nymphet isn't the end of the world, people.
There's 20 more titles out there to take it's place that maybe do a better job slipping under the radar. Be happy with them
Alice Cooper commented he hated it when critics trashed stuff because the artist took the time to make it & EVERYTHING has it's fans.
For every Nymphet that gor licensed & dropped, there are titles that have never, ever been licensed.
My god, 3X3 Eyes was a WONDERFUL title until Dark Horse dropped it due to poor sales. Forget each volume cost almost $20 so the average manga buyer would consider they could buy 2 other titles for the price Dark Horse wanted for one volume of 3X3 Eyes.3X3 Eyes explored some interesting theme like Yakumo considering Pai to be inhuman while he had died & beenbrought back as a zombie(as pointed out by his crossdressing boss at the bar Yakumo worked at)
I'd love to read Devilman-an older Go Nagai title whose license has lapsed.
I'd love to read Zenki, Nazca, Generator Gawl & Weiss since I enjoyed the animes of them.
One stupid title is just a drop in the bucket.
Life goes on.

Nymphet is not porn. It is not porn. Not porn. Not porn. It's disgusting and obvious, but it isn't porn.

Maybe you should look up the ruling on what child porn is.

The US Sumpreme Court opinioned that ANY action by the child that takes on a visually sexual tone IS considered child porn in the US. The only difference here is that the ruling is for photographs only and there isn't a law against drawn forms. Various groups, for years have been angling for a chance to make drawings equal to photographs when it comes to child porn.

But this all may not matter because the matter has blown-up so much that a group could easily bring the courts into the manga/anime arena.

My good, you do have some serious issues with a simple comic book, and you're not tired of repeating it to everone for days now. We get it, Zac Wink

You're going to single me out for repeating myself in this thread but nobody else?

Great. I feel like I talk to a hurt kindergarten child. Come on, show some spine. I didn't put a smiley for nothing, you know.

Just for you, I'll chime in my 2 yens to CCSYueh who doesn't stop to bother the readers with her misinformed view.

And yes, it's maybe better for everyone to close the discussion. But remember, next time you go to a manga shop, look a little bit harder what some manga may contain. Some of the deeply traumatized here wouldn't have read the english version of Chikyû Misaki by chance, would you? Look close, there's shoutacon themes & raunchy humor every 3rd-5th page revolving around a small kid, two 14 year old girls and an adult 30th something woman, and the serialization was in Kadokawa's Shounen Ace. Otaku read this magazine too, you know...

Sorry, but are you THAT naive? ... Do you automatically believe damage control by a publisher without making yourself an opinion by looking yourself what the whole fuss is about, content-wise?

Acting like a lemming is easier than being a critical researcher I guess :-/

And what is the point in fiercely defending titles like Negima and Loveless vs. Kojika? For the general public and non-manga readers it's completely irrelevant if some 14 year old girls who show a lot of flesh go after a 9 year old boy or a 9 year old girl tries to gain attention of her beloved 23 year old teacher - there's simply no justification for both, in the mind of conservative people. This invisible line of what's supposed to be morally justified in A/M or what not, this line is created among fans and not among the general public.
If you don't believe it, try it: Explain to people who don't bother to read any manga or watch any anime the content of all three titles. You'll be amazed how the reactions will be. I say, they won't make any difference.
