*sniffle* So sad; one of my favorite mangas is coming to an end. FMA is up there with One Piece in one of the most exciting mangas that I've ever read; it was my first manga as well. Can't wait to see what happens!! Hopefully we all get the happy ending that we've been looking forward to. Arakawa-sensei is an amazing woman...hopefully she'll make more series and they'll become just as popular as FMA is and always will be. Speaking of her, she's also got another series out called Hero's Tales. Haven't read it yet, but I'm expecting good things from Ms. Arakawa...as I always do. I continue to wish her good luck on her other series & hopefully she'll visit America someday at a con! (If she hasn't already.)

Oh, and i hope they won't cast anyone small for Ed. I mean, i always hated all those jokes about his high.. Beside, it will piss Vic Mignogna and that's already a good reason not to cast someone small for the role Smile

D: but...that would just be WRONG if he wasn't small......

Besides, there is a logical reason to why Edward's growth is stunted (no, it's not because of the milk). Edward and Al both come the realization to why Edward is small and why he sleeps a lot; it's explained the the manga. Smile In other words, its actually a fragment of the plot.

Yeah yeah, i know i know Smile
But i would not say it is an *important* "fragment of the plot".. They don't have to include it. They could make something else up instead. I also don't think that it would feel wrong if he isn't small. And beside.. Where would they find someone *THAT* small anyway?! Razz

Lol, I'm sure they could find someone in the 4-11 to 5-3 range that would do it...

Or they could ask Vic, he'd TOTALLY do it, even though he's a little older, lol. He did self-make a live-action spoof. xD It was great. Vic is awesome.

I was wondering if this series was going to be ongoing like Bleach.

Really? Seriously?! Three??? On the first page?

...

*casts obvious biases aside that no one mentioned the longest running series like Sazae-san, One Piece or Meitantei Conan, and continues reading useful posts*

Well, it's a little hard to argue with people complaining that Bleach has been dragging itself out just a little too much over the past few years ~~ I don't think it's really a question of length. I doubt you'd find any One Piece fan who would advocate that series ending any time soon – it's still going as strong as the day it started. Bleach is a different matter.

Definitions of enormity, from Merriam-Webster:

Quote:

3 : the quality or state of being huge : immensity
4 : a quality of momentous importance or impact
usage Enormity, some people insist, is improperly used to denote large size. They insist on enormousness for this meaning, and would limit enormity to the meaning “great wickedness.” Those who urge such a limitation may not recognize the subtlety with which enormity is actually used. It regularly denotes a considerable departure from the expected or normal . they awakened; they sat up; and then the enormity of their situation burst upon them. “How did the fire start?” — John Steinbeck When used to denote large size, either literal or figurative, it usually suggests something so large as to seem overwhelming no intermediate zone of study. Either the enormity of the desert or the sight of a tiny flower — Paul Therou

Obviously, I'm a bit of a grammar/vocab Nazi myself. I think you're splitting hairs a wee bit. Very Happy

Oh, I'm aware that "enormity" can be used with quite a subtle range of meaning. The Steinbeck quote strikes me as a perfect example of proper usage of the word, describing a situation which seems overwhelming in a horrible sort of way. The "immensity" described is subjective, abstract and emotionally-charged, with a clear negative aspect. The Therou quote doesn't seem quite as appropriate to me (since it seems like it's the physical size he's really trying to draw attention to), but I could still accept it, since the physical vastness of the desert is a highly intimidating and formidable thing in and of itself (which can serve to heighten the contrast with the flower, which has no negative associations whatsoever). I can see how the word might be somewhat appropriate, if that's what the author intended to convey.

And for the record, yes, whilst dictionaries do tend to include the simple "immensity, vastness" meaning, it's *never* the primary meaning, and almost always accompanied by a usage note indicating that it's controversial. Even if you do think it's acceptable, I don't see how you can deny that there are better, far less ambiguous alternatives available if the physical size is all you're talking about. And perpetuating the usage of the word in a purely physical sense only serves to harm the English language in the long-term, since the word is far more valuable in its more specialised meaning. There are plenty of words meaning "immensity", but I can't think of any word with quite the same complex connotations as "enormity".

ANN's usage of the word just strikes me as a case of simple ignorance rather than any attempt to use the word for the subtleties of its meaning. Unlike the Therou quote above, where the author is trying to evoke a number of things himself, and so we can give him the benefit of the doubt, here ANN is directly paraphrasing a posting which is quite clearly only talking about physical size. I just don't think it's appropriate to add in implications that clearly weren't present in the original.

This is one of my two favorite action series right now! Both FMA and One Piece are amazingly epic in their current story arcs. One Piece shows no sign of ending any time soon, but it's blatantly obvious that FMA's finale is going to blow everyone's mind! Can't Wait!

Well alongs as the ending doesnt give out an OMG moment a la Code Geass R2's ending, I can live with it.

I could tell while reading FMA that it seemed like it was coming to an end, but I didn't think it would be in just two months. A proper ending to a great series is always bitter sweet.

Having read that the last chapter is supposed to be 150 pages long, that should mean things should would get resolved thoroughly. That is equal to between 6-8 normal 18-25 page weekly chapters. Arakawa-sensei will be pulling extra long hours.
