I do have to wonder. When I was in high school, way back in the days when MTV still played music videos (mid 90s), my parents got into the habit of sitting down with me, watching it and commenting every time the music video for Nine Inch Nail's "Closer" came on when they were home. Now, granted, the line in question is censored on the TV and radio edits of the song, but it's absolutely clear by context what he is talking about in the song. I was always curious whether my parents knew what he was saying and assumed I didn't, knew what he was saying and didn't care, or actually didn't get it at all. I'd bring it up with them now, but I doubt they even remember that song.

I had the same experience with the OVA of Gravitation and my mother. I laughed so hard while reading this. |
I ROFL'd at the comic. Oh, Mimori Kiyu, I have a funny story with Gravitation manga and my mother. About a year ago, I picked up Volume 5 off the Withdrawn shelf in the library and leafed through it, waiting for my mother to sign out. (She works at said library and it is close to the place where my bus drops me off, so I go to the library quite often.) Back then, I wasn't really into shonen-ai/Gravitation, but I was getting interested in it. When my mother came out, she saw me rush to put it back. Guess who payed for the worn and loved Volume 5 of Gravitation on my bookshelf? Yup. Mom, I love you.

It's a fact of life. No matter who you are and no matter what you're watching. If it has sexually questionable material, there is a 95% probability that someone will by chance come in at the exact most incriminating time possible.
It's an absolute truth and one of the many things in this world that is not explainable. I think it has something to do with quantum physics
This is why any questionable material I have is only viewed either LATE at night or on my Laptop.
The only time this rule seems to not apply is when the show in question is well known throughout the family. Like, if I was to be watching CSI, and the opening had a 'sex scene,' the chances of someone coming in would be next to nothing.

Grandma Rosa is a closet BL fan. I love her already.
But seriously, there really is a unique discomfort in viewing a sex scene of any sort in the presence of a parent/grandparent. I suppose it has to do with our puritanical bashfulness/"shame" regarding sex, as opposed to graphic violence (Note to self: watch This Film Is Not Yet Rated already!)
Anyway, while I have no occasion to be watching any anime, BL or not, with my parents (they wouldn't even entertain the notion), I am knowingly setting up my own uncomfortable situation in that I'm currently watching the new Doctor Who with my mom. Eventually (after Season 3, I believe) we'll be delving into Torchwood territory, which has much more "adult" themes than DW (i.e. sex/sexy scenes of all possible gender-combination permutations). Can't wait!

Oh man, this made my day in the morning
Though Grandma's aren't the one I'm referring to but family members do tend to bug you when you're watching something
Awesome comic!

It's Murphy's Law, of course.
And possibly because anyone hearing the noise from somewhere else in the house (or worse, apartment room) will come to look what's going on, iof only out of curiosity.

But the thing is for me is that people come in just to take care of some business they have in my room. Like, they might want to use the copy/printer to make a photo copy of something. Or they just want to ask me a question about something.
It is rare that someone will come in my room because they are curious of sounds they heard from the TV.

This reminds me of when I was living with my grandma and I wanted to watch Sex and the City and for a while I insisted on taping it so I could watch it when she wasn't around, then I realised she didn't mind, not all parents/grandparents are that cool, but my gran was (sadly she's dead now, I miss her very much) quite liberal. My dad always used to joke that she'd be all like "What's that, sex? We used to do that during the war." My dad was liberal enough that he had no issue with me watching cartoon porn (I never did, but I was curious about it's existence as a younger teen) so there was never really an issue surrounding yaoi.

Aw man. That's probably happened to most female anime viewers. I'm not that into yaoi but I will watch it on occasion. Hey, at least it wasn't hentai. THAT would have been awkward. xD

Agh...Experiencing Ranma 1/2 flashbacks, if only my parents had been as cool as Grandma Rose.

That reminds of the time I was watching Evangelion, and my mom came in the room, I had to change the channel and fast.

OMG GRANDMA ROSA IS AWESOME!!!
Not a big surprise though. For some freak reason hispanic people (including the older ones) seem more open to "romance" homo or not (or at least the spanish teachers at my high school are & they're all over 50 0.0)
Just what I've observed though. Maybe its because I live in South Florida >_> (not too many homophobes here )
